1800’s Ephemera Gossip Bench

My most recent project was a real labor of love.
I got the gossip bench a few months ago, started painting it,
and ran into some troubles which I wrote about here –
After that, I put it aside and have been waiting for some inspiration on what to do with it.
That inspiration came when I purchased a huge lot
of women’s magazines from the 1800’s that I posted about here –
I used some leftover Valspar paint, then distressed it
and used Valspar Antique Glaze on it, then the fun part came…
adding the 1800’s pages!
It sat for a few more days because I couldn’t decide
what to cover the seat cushion with,
but fortunately, I was able to get 4 antique seed bags
at an auction.  They were all pretty dirty and stained,
so it was nip and tuck fitting one to the seat without
any unsightly stains showing.  The original wood base
was rotted, so my husband cut a new one for me.
Here’a a close-up of the top of the bench.
And some more of the details of the bench…
It was worth the trouble and wait!
She’s now ready to do some gossiping at these parties:
Apparently she’s visiting each twice, because I have *no* idea why each link is there twice.

1800’s Ephemera”….it only led me to your home page. I would love to read the whole story and about your inspiration.

  21. This pandemic has made me want to do more things around the house. I have NEVER done any sort of project like this one, but I love your gossip table! And I happen to have one that a I have I purchased in a yard sale similar to yours and I’d love to do the same thing you did (if you’re OK with it) with the pages of a 1900 Sears catalog I have – but don’t know how! WHat’s Modge Podge? LOL but seriously, Idk!
