My Happy Place & a Winner!

You know that feeling when you work on a project
and you step back to take a look and just
SMILE?

That’s me today.
Wanna see why?

One small part of our kitchen remodel is nearly complete.
This little space is the kitchen side
of the courthouse window that
I showed you a few days ago.
You can see the old, ugly cabinets
in the background.  That’s the next
part of the kitchen to be worked on.

We are working on a frugal budget,
so my husband did surgery on the
existing cabinet that was previously in
that spot, by removing one section of it,
painting it and adding a granite island top on it.

This little wall next to the window forms
a recessed area for the refrigerator.
He used tongue and grove wood planks
on the walls, which will also go on the
rest of the kitchen walls.

I finally have a place to
hang the cookie sheet chalkboard
I made a few weeks ago and some
of my other vintage kitchen items.

I found the wooden spoon for a quarter at
a thrift store yesterday.  I love how
it has “browned” just like the cookie sheet,
so it was the perfect addition.

Every member of the family is
assigned a day to get dinner on the table.
Some days it’s just Hamburger Helper (youngest son),
some days it’s picking up pizza on their way home,
and on days when all 6 of us are actually
home together to eat (which is only about 2 days a week)
it’s a more wholesome, home-cooked meal.

There’s several months of work to be done,
before the kitchen is finished, but I think
my husband is doing a fantastic job and
I can’t wait until the next section of the kitchen
gets completed, so I can step
in to decorate {I get the fun parts!}.

This little space just makes
me happy though – from both
sides of the window!

  19. Your kitchen is looking great! Is that a tin ceiling I can see peeking out of the corner of your photo? I think we have the same granite, & I was so thrilled when we were able to install that in our kitchen a few months ago. I just love that it’s virtually indestructible. I’m now following on both GFC & LF, plus Pinterest. Yep, I’m an “all in” kind of person! Hope you might follow back.
