Using the Remnants – Antique Grainsack Pillow

I love the motto,
“Use it up,
wear it out,
make it do,
or do without.”

So in an effort to “use up” some of my fabric stash,
I mailed some antique fabric & lace
remnants to my mom,
{who loves me enough
to keep sewing things for me}
and asked her create this
 grain sack pillow for me.

The fabric is leftover
from the seat cover I made
for this old chair.

I love the aged appearance & the lettering
on this grain sack.

Things don’t stay clean long in our house,
with 2 indoor dogs and a cat
that comes and goes as she pleases.
I need things to be washable,
so Mom did an envelope closure
back on it, which is easily removable.

Thanks Mom!!!

  1. Really sweet and once again Mom comes though for you.

  2. Looks great! I was raised on that motto. I heard it from both my grandmother and my mother. 😉

  3. Love the pillows with that vintage lace! Did you leave the lace on the chair after your post? I still like it better with the lace.

I just sent my husband crawling around our tiny garage attic to get some garden fencing for my weekend project using stuff I already have. Blog post coming soon.

  4. How lucky you are to have a mom who sews for you! Very pretty pillow!

  5. The pillow is so pretty. Your mother did a fantastic job. You are so lucky.

  6. Great pillow. I love making them and changing things up.

Your mom is so sweet to keep making these fabulous things for you. My mom’s specialty is embroidery. She spends her days working on pieces for her five daughters, thirteen grandchildren, and great-grandchildren – whose number escapes me at present. I’m currently trying to decide what I want her to make next for me. 😉

Thanks for being a faithful participant of Time Travel Thursday, Angie!

  8. I love the pillow–really love the lace trim around that chair–how adorable!

  9. Love your pillow and your use it philosophy! I would love for you to link this up to my Inspired Creations party going on now! I would love to have you!

  10. I am old enough to remember those old grain sacks when they were being used by my grandparents. Great reuse of something so many people threw away.
