Create an autumn sign with Wordle!
Have you used Wordle to make word art yet?
If you haven’t, be warned…it’s addictive.
You create a list of words (I went with an “Autumn” theme for mine), then just generate the Wordle.
You can select your color scheme, layout and font, so it’s limitless what you can create with it.
I wanted to turn my Wordle into an autumn sign though, so I:
1) painted an oak cabinet door with chalkboard paint,
2) created a stencil with my Silhouette (affiliate link)of my Wordle design,
3) used a variety of colors to paint the words.
You can also print my designs below, and decoupage them to a board (or print and frame them), or create our own.
Here are some variations of my word list. With just a click of the button, you can change the font, color, or orientation. Each change you make generates the list over again, so the words are moved to different positions.
The only drawback to Wordle is there isn’t a way to save your Wordle within their website. There is an html code that is generated, so if you want to save your wordle, you’ll need to save that code to find and come back to your project later. You can also take a screenshot and open it in a program like Paint, as I did below, then save it as a JPEG – just crop the image before saving it.
Wordle is so fun to play with. I can’t tell you how many times I hit the “randomize” button, just to see what new layouts it would come up with. You could create some really fun gifts with it, using words associated with a person, family, other seasons of the year, places, etc.
Subway art has become so popular, so you could create a printable version with Wordle too.

I love your sign! That is really cool. How fun to do descriptive words of your family or something. I so enjoy your photos–you do such an awesome job of staging your items. Love it!

Merry Christmas Angie! The family is on their way home, and I’m resting at the computer. I found your blog, by chance, today while deciding what to do with a bunch of old bed springs I salvaged (quite a treasure!). I am so glad to have found your blog, too! I have used Wordle in the classroom, but I love this idea of the wooden sign. You said you made a template. May I ask how you went about that? I’ve made a couple of sign templates, and I’ve had less than fun with them!
