I’ve got several boxes full of old, rusty springs, so a few weeks ago I put some of them to use on some new projects. I love combining old wood with old metal, so most of my springs got added to wood in one way or another.
A few rusty springs with jelly jars in them were added to a salvaged piece of tongue and groove wood. It makes a fun little candle or flower holder.
Don’t these yellow flowers look gorgeous next to the turquoise wood?
Here’s another one I made on a longer piece of well-aged wood. I think this one is perfect for an autumn table centerpiece.
I’ll be more than happy to keep it if it doesn’t sell in my shop, but I guess I can always make anther one, because I have enough springs to make about 100 of them.
This is the exact same wood as the turquoise project above, but there was only a tiny bit of paint on it, so I sanded it smooth and waxed it before adding a spring to the front with a jelly jar.
Above the jar, I added a portion of a page from an antique hymn book, which seemed a fitting match for the candle holder.
I sent this to my mom for her birthday, but plan to create a few more of them.
Another spring got added to a round wooden wheel from an antique barn pulley.
I added antique telephone insulators to these 2 springs on another piece of chippy salvaged wood.
I clipped a section of rusty springs from an old mattress to use as another type of candle or flower holder, but since the springs are metal, it could also be used as an unusual magnet board or clip board with clothespins. I love the quirkiness of it.
Another section of springs flipped the other way makes a great “vase” for dried flowers.

Hmmmm…. I have springs. I have insulators of blue and white. Do I have insulators that will fit in my springs? Stay tuned for a copycat.

I just finished taking apart a dilapidated Victorian loveseat for the springs and the upholstery tacks. The tacks had aged to a lovely turquoise patina, so I’ll use those for a project I have in mind. My springs are shaped a bit differently from yours and I need to find something to do with them. I like your ideas. The other day I saw some new look-alike springs that were wired together into a wreath shape. Very cute ! I might try that, too. Thank you for the ideas!

Angie, great ideas!! My hubby tore apart a mattress for me last fall and I left the springs outside through our worst Nova Scotia winter in years.
