Anniversary Getaway & Giveaway Winners

On Tuesday, my husband and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary.  We didn’t do anything fancy or extravagant,  but over the weekend we did go on an overnight getaway to a small town, not far away from our home.  My husband booked a room for us at the historic  William Watson Hotel, in downtown Pittsfeld, IL.
As soon as I saw our room, I knew he’d made a great choice.  The owners did an amazing job removing plaster to uncover the beautiful original brick walls.  All the furnishings were just my style, with antique doors used as headboards, and many antique pieces in every room.  All the unoccupied rooms were unlocked, so we were able to roam freely throughout and visit each uniquely decorated room.
We had a beautiful view of the 1800’s courthouse just  outside our window, and the weather was perfect while we were there.

This is a photo of the front of the hotel, from what looks to be the early 1900’s.

It’s a very small town, with only a few antique and thrift stores, but I did bring home a few new things I’ll be listing in my shop later in the week.  The only glitch in the weekend, was when we went to sit out on a porch late in the evening, and I locked us out of our room.  At most hotels, that wouldn’t be a problem, but there isn’t any overnight staff in this hotel, so there was no way to ask for another key.  I rummaged around at the front desk hoping to find a key, but I didn’t, so I grabbed a business card that was there, and managed to use it to get the lock open.  Clearly, I’ve had experience with locking myself out of rooms before, and those skills came in handy.  It would have been the pits to have such a great room, and to have had to sleep on the porch instead.

In other news, my husband has been busy working on our combination guest room/photo studio, and I’ll be giving you an update on the progress later this week.
