Gold and Glittery Christmas Tree

The wonderful thing about the night before Christmas, is the realization that whatever I have done is all I will get done, because time has run out.  That realization makes me relax, and stop stressing about what I did and didn’t do.  I have to just lay it aside, and enjoy Christmas day.  It wasn’t easy, mind you.  There were gifts that didn’t arrive in time, and there were gifts I didn’t get at all, but I’m trying to develop an “all is calm” attitude, when I’ve done the best I can.

I’m not one of those bloggers who had my tree up and decorated by the day after Thanksgiving.  Ours didn’t get decorated until less than a week before Christmas.  I wish we could have gotten it done sooner, but life happens, and I just had to relax about it, and accept that my entire family is so busy right now, and just having everyone together is wonderful for me.

One evening, just before my youngest son (14 years old) was ready to go to bed, I asked him if he wanted to help me decorate the tree.  I didn’t want to leave him out of decorating it, and we just couldn’t find a night when the entire family could do it.  So, he and I decorated the tree, and I’m probably the last blogger on the planet to share their Christmas tree…and that’s okay, right?  Ours is far from perfect.  One of our sets of lights didn’t work, so the lights are a bit skimpy, and I should have bought a few more ornaments to fill it out better, but we’re not perfectionists, and

ALL IS CALM

I refuse to let it bother me.

I went with a gold and glittery theme this year.  Most of the ornaments came from the dollar store, and a few were half-off at Hobby Lobby.  I didn’t want to spend a fortune on new ornaments, and my oldest kids are tired of using our somewhat tacky random collection of ornaments.  I was surprised how much I liked the ones I found at the dollar store, and hoped they wouldn’t look too cheap once we hung them, and I’m happy with them.  I think I spent about $16 on all of them.  They won’t last forever, but that’s okay, because I’m starting to like having a new look for our tree each year.

I made the glittery pennants garland from some wrapping paper left over from last year.  My oldest son bought it and wrapped all his gifts with it, then swore he’d never use glitter wrapping paper again, so I had half a roll of it to do whatever I wanted with.  After putting all the ornaments on, I realized the tree really needed some type of garland, and the paper was perfect with the dollar store ornaments.
