a 2 year old and a wire basket

I was standing there in the antique mall, having one of those raging inner battles.

You have those too, right?

You know, one of those battles when the sensible side of you says,

Do you really need that?

(as if “need” has anything to do with it)

And the thrifty side of you says,

Wait until you find one at a yard sale, you’ll pay less.

(who invited Cheapo to go antiquing with us??)

And the organized side of you says,

Where in the world would you put it?  You already have too much stuff.

(she’s secretly wishing she would have spotted it first)

And then the slightly spoiled rotten 2 year old side of you throws an all-out hissy fit and starts screaming,

But I WANNTTTT it!!

And right at in the middle of that raging battle,

the store clerk walks up and says,

Would you like me to carry that to the register for you?

and chaos breaks loose.

Sensible self starts rattling off her reasons why it isn’t needed.

Thrifty self starts babbling about how in her day you could buy a bicycle basket for just a few dollars.

Organized self starts complaining about what a mess the booth displays are.

Then Business Self (who is usually no fun at all) turns to the child and says,

You can only have it IF you list it in your shop AND no one buys it.

Business Self is pretty darn savvy.

She shuts the screaming kid up, AND gets some cool inventory at the same time.

Now you know why we bring her along!

The 2 year old holds out her arms for that beloved wire basket, and turns into a sweet little cherub once again.

(Business Self will have to find an authoritative way to deal with me the 2 year old later if it sells.)

But seriously…it was my week for wire baskets, because I actually got TWO of the bike baskets and my husband brought home a wire freezer basket as well.

I’m one happy 2 year old business person!

I was either meant to sell some baskets …

or I was meant to give them a home.

All these wire baskets are available here….

if you don’t have a problem with making a 2 year old cry. 😉

  1. I LOVE the baskets! Yep. I have a wire basket weakness, too. And actually went through almost the same scenario this weekend. My basket is headed toward my booth where, hopefully it won’t sell. (Did I just say that out loud?!) I was afraid it would sell quicker on Etsy. Although, all my other baskets have sold at the booth very quickly lately. Before I even got to play with them. 🙁

  2. You’re TOOOO funny, Angie!

  3. LOL! I think some of us can definitely identify with this! Sometimes the two-year old needs to get their way…

  4. Very cute post, Angie! I had to chuckle over your “multiple personalities”.

  5. I know exactly what you mean! But I don’t have a booth to sell stuff. I just keep collecting! Lol!

  6. Hilarious! And so right on. I love your humor, Angie. You really outlined the inner battles I have with myself about acquiring another object for my limited space to accommodate. “But I WAAANT it!” I heard this wail just a week ago from my four-year-old grandson about a “Transformer” toy he had seen on TV. A full-out tantrum! Not so different from us “grown-ups” is it? My business person would have told the 2-year-old that she could have the basket if she sold something else that she already has! Object in, object out! Never works for me.

    • Naomi, I’m so glad to hear there are so many other adults that have an inner 2-year old, when it comes to things we want! It would be really embarrassing if I was the only one! 🙂

  7. too funny… Great analogy and soooo true!

  8. You’re safe. My “what can you use it for?” self won out. I can relate to having all those selves in my head too! Cute post, Angie 🙂

  9. Wow!! I thought I was the only one that had these conversation with so many people inside myself. It is great to know that I am not alone. I would have probably give in to the 2 year old as well. They don’t always get there way, but sometimes it happens. Love the baskets
