Whenever we go on any kind of road trip, I keep my camera with me, and keep my eyes open for old barns to photograph. On our way to New Mexico, when I spotted the most amazing wood and brick barn I’ve ever seen.
By the time I spotted it though, we had already driven past the road we needed to turn on, and my husband didn’t want to turn around and go back, but he promised we’d find it on our way back home, and I wouldn’t let him forget that promise! On the return trip home, I started watching the road like a hawk, to make sure we didn’t drive by it, and thankfully I found it again.
The upper half of the barn is brick, and the lower half is brick, as is the silo and small building next to it. I counted 9 lightning rods on the roof, but there may have been more, since I didn’t walk all the way around it.

Here’s the view from the side. are’t those dormer windows wonderful? There was another smaller, but also wonderful barn on the property, which I also photographed and will be sharing next week. It looks like the property is maintained, although the big brick house that was there had boarded up windows. I didn’t take any photos of it, but it looked like it would have been a beauty in its day.

Oh my, not only is this a beautiful, old barn, it has a unique style that you don’t generally see…do you happen to know what this particular style is called? I love the shape of the roof and the mix of the red brick with the old weathered wood is absolutely scrumptious! What fantastic photos you took of it, too, Angie…the first one is my fave with the inclusion of the little dirt road at the side of the barn…it really gives you a feel for the serenity of the scene! Thank you so very much for sharing this wonderful capture of such a gorgeous, old barn! I was just thinking what an amazing gallery it would make to print off all of your beautiful barn photos, frame them in nice, rustic frames, and hang them all together as a collection. I think that would look really smart!
The barn on the bottom left looks very, very much like one on a farm I used to live on. We were beside a highway and people pulled over all the time to take pictures of it. It was very cool inside too! I wish I had kept a picture myself 🙂 TY for sharing these!
Do you happen to know what town you were in or near? I’m from SW MO and we sure don[‘t have anything that big around here. I’m assuming it might have been a big dairy operation at one time. I showed my husband the picture and he said “Could you see making a home out of that?” Our barn is falling down (no more animals and no money to fix it.) and it’s breaking my heart.
What an amazing barn! I’ve never seen one like it. The brick and the aged wood are beautiful together. I wonder what the story is? Don’t you always wonder when you see a beautiful place like this why no one is living there and loving it anymore? I always wish I were rich so I could buy them and restore them to their original glory. Thanks for sharing your discovery, Angie.
