Keeping Time – the Last Days of Summer

Have you ever done something SO dumb, you hope no one ever finds out about it?  Well, I’m going to tell you the incredibly dumb thing I did last night, just so YOU feel better about anything dumb you could ever think of doing.

Brace yourself, this is really dumb!

So, you remember the pallet wood bathtub tub I made, right?  Well, I’m a total bathtub soaker, and I write my blog posts using my computer on that bathtub table, nearly every day.

Well…last night I was working on a blog post, and had just finished up.  Before getting out of the tub, I decided to shave my legs.  I propped my leg up on the bathtub table and …

… you can see where this is going, right?…

Yep, I knocked the table over.  It was a split second, but it felt like it was in in slow motion as I watched the table, AND my computer both fall into the tub.

See…you feel better now, don’t you? 🙂

Needless to say, I had to do some unplanned computer shopping today, and I’m mourning the loss of all the photos on my hard drive. We’re letting it dry out, just in case a miracle occurs and it decides to work, but I’m not holding my breath.

So let that be a lesson to you.  Never use your bathtub table as a leg prop when you computer is on it, or don’t shave your legs – your choice!

I can’t believe summer break is almost over.  It seems like I just hung up my Welcome Home chalkboard to greet my college son when he came home from summer break, and now it’s time to change the message to “we’ll miss you”.

And we also camped for a night and went canoeing and kayaking the next day, but other than that we couldn’t find time in everyone’s schedule to do much else.

We have several family events to travel to that we already know about for next summer, so hopefully everyone will be able to get their work schedules lined up so we can ALL go together.  I’m already looking forward to it!

What kind of activities did your family enjoy this summer?

Did you go to the beach, or the mountains, or go camping, or just relax in your own backyard?

camping poster

I love this camping poster available from Lia Griffith!  It would look so cute in a child’s room, but I think it would look great in a rec. room too.

magnetic travel game

Isn’t this camping tic-tac-toe magnetic game too cute?!  It’s available on Etsy.

autumn scarf

I love this mustard yellow scarf that can be used as a shawl also.  This is the perfect accessory to transition from late summer into fall.  It’s available on Etsy.

vintage camper makeover

Check out the makeover given to this vintage camper.  It’s amazing the difference from how it started!  See more at Vintage Revivals.

And since I keep thinking of camping, wouldn’t it be fun to sleep under the late summer stars on this bed!  I love the pattern on the vintage Woolworth blanket on the bed. It’s another Etsy item available here.

Have a great weekend!

  1. Oh dear…I am so very sorry to hear what happened to your computer, Angie, and I dearly hope when it dries out that it will be fine and you can get your photos off of it…fingers firmly crossed! I know exactly what you mean about things like this happening in slow-mo…it’s like you are an onlooker watching the results of something you have done and you can’t do anything to stop it…you probably replayed the entire thing in your mind a thousand times, too. Hopefully, everything turns out and you get your photos back because they are precious and can’t be replaced!

GAH…I know what you mean about summer slipping past much too quickly…as much as I love fall, I hate to see summer end. I’d imagine it is an especially sorrowful time since your babies will be heading back to school, but it sounds like you have some really awesome plans for next summer, so hopefully, that will give you something to look forward to and a reason to smile when the chips are down!

I didn’t do much of interest this summer as I’m a caregiver to two family members who are seriously ill, but that has its own rewards, too. Like, I got to do some camping out in the backyard with one of them and that was great fun…it is a memory I will always cherish! And I think I’m finally getting a handle on all of these weeds…that definitely kept me on my toes!

The mustard yellow of that scarf is my favourite colour…it’s one of my chosen colours for my bedroom and I also have a beautiful handbag that is the same colour…so, I’m going to have to check out that scarf! If I could sleep outside in that bed, I would want to sleep under the stars all of the time! And that vintage camper is just gorgeous…who wouldn’t want to go camping in that?

Here’s hoping you and your beautiful family will enjoy the remaining moments of summer…wishing you all much laughter, light, and love…may these next few days be the stuff of warm and lasting memories!

    • What a blessing you are to your family members Susan! I was afraid of getting eaten alive by bugs, so I haven’t slept outdoors (other than my 1 night of tent camping), but I’m thinking I need to borrow my son’s hammock that has a cover and do it while the weather is still nice! I hope you enjoy the rest of the summer as well!

      • Thank you for the lovely compliment, Angie…that means a lot coming from you! Being a caregiver has its challenges, but it also has its rewards…I have learned a lot these past few years about life and about myself and I believe I have become a much better person because of it…much more kind, patient, and giving. I only wish I knew how to take these maladies away from my loved ones.

haha…I am sooooooo with you on the bugs…that is the one thing about camping that isn’t fun…well, that and maybe hearing the coyotes nearing your tent! You son’s hammock sounds like it would be really handy…I’ll have to look into those…or maybe I could always opt for a bee-keeper’s suit? That would be hard to sleep in, though! 🙂 I dearly hope you get to do a little more camping before summer is over…fingers firmly crossed!

  2. Oh No!!!! That is totally something I would do Angie if it makes you feel any better 🙁 I certainly hope you get that miracle and can save some of your pics… no chance you are on a Mac and they are in the cloud?

    • Thanks Susan – no Mac here, unfortunately. We did back up my computer a few months ago, so I should be able to get the photos from before the backup – just not the last few months.

  3. Oh man, how you must have hated that little error! We keep too much on our pc’s don’t we? Hope it drys out enough to retrieve some pics. Love your blog since hubby and I are repurposing an entire grain bin into a home. Two floors, 720 sguare feet and lots of opportunities to recycle all the farm inventory we’ve saved for years. Are you aware of anyone else who has done this? Is so hard to find info on the internet about the actual framing, insulation parts. Take care

  4. Yikes! I just hate that! I have a laptop sitting by by chair that crashed last year. Why is it still here? Photos that had not been backed up. I think I am finally going to have to get professional help. I hope your hard drive works once it is dry.

  5. Oh my gosh, Angie…not much you can do when something like that happens. Arrgghh. Hope you find a new computer soon.
Summer really is going by so fast! It’s been a busy one for us, too…a family reunion at the lake, a new grandson, a family gathering at a log cabin in Iowa…and still more to come. It’s like I want to drink every drop of this summer…enjoy your special family times!

  6. I’m so sorry about your computer! I still use a PC so I’m safe from that. I do put my phone on the side of the tub listening to music and I have to be careful or I’ll get the dropsies and it will be gone!
Hope you get a few of you photos salvaged, if not all 🙂 Have a good Sunday!

  7. So sorry to hear about your computer. 🙁 I’ve done it to a phone while washing dishes at the sink. I’ve learned to keep any electronics clear from the area. We all have those moments but I do hope a miracle happens to retrieve your data.

I love the camper and that blanket! Thank you for sharing another great week, Angie. Best luck on those photos… hope you can get them back.

  8. Marlene Stephenson says

So sorry to hear of your problem, hope you get your pictures out of it. I want to sleep on that bed under the stars. I enjoyed this week with you lots going on,thanks.

  9. Sarah Nelson says

Buy a couple of huge bags of plain white rice and place the rice and your computer in a closed container, with the rice completely encasing the computer. Leave for a couple of days. The rice should pull all the water out and may make it work again! My daughter used this for her smartphone and it worked!

  10. I’m so sorry, Angie! Something like that can happen to everybody. Please don’t feel too bad! Hopefully you can get the pictures back once the laptop has dried.

  11. Oh boy, I bet that hurt. Trumps my entire cup of coffee landing on my laptop and frying it. After that I went out and bought an external hard drive where I store all my photos safely far from liquids of any kind.

    • I have an external hard drive too Marie – I just forget to back up my computer very often, so it was last done several months ago. I’m glad I’m not the only one who does things like this!

  12. Angie
I am utterly in lust of that “Vintage Camper” link.
