Farmhouse Christmas Ornament

When my kids were younger, our Christmas tree was pretty random looking, with an assortment of kid-made ornaments, and store bought ones, but the last few years, I’ve done most of the decorating and have gone with a theme for the tree.  Two years ago, I did a “Vintage White” theme, last year, I did a “Gold and Glittery” theme, and this year I decided I want to do an “old-fashioned farmhouse Christmas” theme.I  just want an old-fashioned, simple farmhouse look – like Laura and Mary stepped out of the Little House on the Prairie books and decorated my tree. 🙂

This sweet little porcelain creamer (from Amazon) has exactly the look I want – I just need to Christmas it up a little with some small sprigs from an evergreen tree, and some gingham ribbon.

I made a simple little bow to attach to the front of the creamer.

I’d love to decorate the whole tree now, but I’m holding off until after Thanksgiving, so we can enjoy each holiday as they come and not rush it.

  1. Those little farmhouse ornaments are so cute and clever!

  2. That’s a darling ornament to start with. Can’t wait to see the whole tree and farmhoused up.

  3. This is just adorable …I love it and I’m inspired to makeover a few of my tiny treasures xo

  4. How did you attach the gingham hanging ribbon

  5. This is lovely, Angie! I have to admit after the colors of fall in our house…I am looking forward to lots of simple white for Christmas…

  6. Angie; I love everything you share with us and this is so simple and elegant; but I never would have thought about using my white pitchers and creamers that I collect. Thanks for the idea! One thing I am missing or not is the way you attached the hanger ribbon; I saw the bow but how did you do the hanger part?

  7. Totally charming! I admire people who are A) thinking about Christmas already and B) can actually be together enough to come up with a new theme for the tree each year. My theme each year is “crap! we’ve got to get the Christmas tree up!”

    • LOL – David, the reason I started doing theme trees a few years ago, is because it was impossible for me to get all of my older kids home at the same time to hang our usual ornaments, so I decided I’d just do it myself, and have some fun with it! My kids ended up liking the theme idea, because they thought our random ornaments looked too junky.

  8. Angie… this is such a sweet idea and the gingham hanger and ribbon and greenery give it the perfect handmade homespun farmhouse touch. 🙂 Would you share how you attached the hanging ribbon and bow? I wondered if it was hot glue (cool glue?) or something more professional.
Thanks for joining us for the blog hop… it’s so good to have you on board!!

  9. Angie, please, please, share all of your ideas and lots of pictures of your Christmas tree and any Christmas decorating you do…you are such an inspiration to me and I so love your style. I look forward to finding your posts in my email. Have a blessed day.

    Angie,

The mini pitcher with red and white gingham with greenery sprigs is so refreshing! I too do theme trees most years. Storing all of my different themes is becoming a problem. But, whenever I decide to thin out my “stock” there is precious few of items I give away. My theme this year is for my husband. It will be a fishing theme on our family room tree. My husband in the last two years discovered his love of fishing. So we bought a lot along

  11. Those tiny white pitches are so cute! The greenery and the ribbon make it pop, adorable!

  12. What a sweet little ornament. Ever since I was divorced I have had “my own tree” theme because I couldn’t bear hanging all the cherished family ornaments when I felt my family had been “trashed” so to speak. So I began decorating my tree (artificial for the first time) with a silver and white theme. I have a nice collection of ornaments that I really enjoy putting on the tree and so far, I haven’t gotten bored with it. When the lights are on and I look at it in my bay window I think it still looks perfect with all it’s silver and white twinkling ornaments. It started out as therapy of a sort, but now it’s just “my favorite tree.” But I do love your idea of a Farmhouse theme, too. I might have to put up two trees this year!

  13. Now if this isn’t the sweetest thing EVER! I am soooooooo doing this!!! You are just TOO clever for words, Angie…this is such a simple design, but man, does it speak volumes…and, as your projects always are, this is beautiful beyond words!

Your mention of “Little House on the Prairie” takes me back…my sister and I used to watch the television series together, even as we grew older…heck, I’d probably still watch it if I had time to sit in front of a TV for any length of time! 🙂

  14. I love what you created, Angie! The white pitcher is going to look great on your tree with lights twinkling around it.

  15. Wow this is such a lovely ornament!!!! Super cute!
    XOXO

  16. I love a themed tree too Angie and I just know that your farmhouse tree will be amazing this year. Shared and pinned.
    Hugs ~ Kerryanne

  17. Love it! Such a cute farmhouse idea!!
    Debbie

  18. Such a sweet and simple idea, I’m going to be keeping my eyes open in charity shops over the next few weeks now for suitable little jugs.

  19. This is so very cute = love!!!
    xo
