Santa Claus Coat Rack with Country Living & Hometalk

When Santa Claus, gets home from his long night’s ride around the world, he was lacking a place to hang his coat and hat.   Since the jolly old guy loved the Classic Christmas Books Stocking Hanger than I made last year, I knew he’d love a coat rack made of red and white  books, ‘cuz he’s a red and white kind of fella! 🙂

Are you ready to get started?! …

To make your own, select an assortment of old books of various sizes.  Try to find books that don’t weigh too much.

I pick up books by the box lot at auctions, but thrift stores sell them very inexpensively, since many are so outdated.  If you find books that are red, that will save you from having to paint the covers.

I spray painted all of the books that didn’t have red covers.

I used the same method to assemble it that I used when I created my first repurposed books coat rack (full tutorial here).

Once all the books are attached to the support board, screw a coat hook into each book and add D-ring or keyhole hangers on the back.

You’ll notice that I tilted the smallest book a bit – that adds more visual interest.

I love this antique math book, so I didn’t attach it.  It’s just propped on the chalkboard wall beneath the coat rack.

You can easily modify this idea for any holiday, or coordinate it with your room decor, just by selecting different paint colors, but the red and white books will work well for Valentines Day too!
