Talk of the Town #11 – Finally Spring!

In less than a week, it will be the first day of Spring, which means it’s time to throw open the doors and windows, do some much-needed cleaning, and whip out those paint brushes and start painting up a storm, right? Welcome back to Talk of the Town!  We can’t wait to see what spring time projects you’ve been working on, recipes you’ve cooked up, or anything else you’ve been blogging about!

Toddler Overalls Wall Pocket

I don’t have a toddler or infant anymore, so I rarely look at the little kid’s clothing section of thrift stores, but the pickins’ were pretty slim last time I went in a thrift store, so I wandered over to see if maybe I’d get lucky and find some old wooden blocks, in that department before giving up and leaving empty-handed. I didn’t find any wooden blocks, but I spotted rack full of toddler jeans and overalls, and my mommy heart {Read More}

My Vintage Typewriter Gets a Brand New Job!

I absolutely love my vintage typewriter, but when your house is small, it’s hard to justify something that’s taking up space, but doesn’t have a real purpose, and since the typewriter doesn’t work, it doesn’t have any purpose other than to look pretty. I was walking by it recently, and suddenly I had a light bulb moment. What if it could still sit and look pretty, but get a new job so I could justify the space it’s taking? Can you {Read More}

Weathered Chippy Wood Photo Backdrop

I always find it amusing how different people can be, don’t you?  For example, there are people like me who love rusty old pieces of metal, and other kinds of people who sell rusty old things at their next yard sale (I love those people!).  And there are people like me who think chippy weathered wood is one of the prettiest things on earth, but then there are other types of people who use that same wood for their next bonfire. It {Read More}

Flower Seed Packets Home Sign – Hometalk’s DIY My Spring

The minute the calendar flips to March, I start chomping at the bit for sunshine, green grass and fresh flowers.   It’s still too chilly for an outdoor project, so I brainstormed a bit and came up with something that would usher Spring indoors until the weather catches up with me, and here’s what I came up with… Flower Seed Packets Home Sign To create it, I removed the frame from my Autumn Coat Rack Sign.  The frame is easy {Read More}

Salvage I Never Thought I’d Never Find a Use For!

It’s finally warmed up enough, that I ventured out into my junk shop (which would be a workshop if I ever get it cleaned and organized, and started rummaging through my stockpile of salvage. I’m still trying to get my  creative mojo groove back, and repurposing junk usually does that for me. I spotted a piece of salvage that’s been taunting me for a long time. Do you know what it is? If you guessed it’s an piece from an antique sewing {Read More}

Industrial, Cabin and Farmhouse Style

Farmhouse homes are my favorite style of house, but if I could get a 2nd house, I would love to have either a mountain log cabin, or an urban industrial loft. I like to come up with ways to integrate the different styles I love into the home I have, so when I spotted a corrugated metal and wood framed mirror at Decor Steals, it reminded me that I still had some corrugated metal left over from our shed-turned-guest room remodel. I don’t know what {Read More}
