It’s finally warmed up enough, that I ventured out into my junk shop (which would be a workshop if I ever get it cleaned and organized, and started rummaging through my stockpile of salvage.
I’m still trying to get my creative mojo groove back, and repurposing junk usually does that for me.
I spotted a piece of salvage that’s been taunting me for a long time.
Do you know what it is?
If you guessed it’s an piece from an antique sewing machine stand, you’re correct!
See that piece under the table top, but above the treadle? That’s what the piece was – the cross brace.
I kid you not, I’ve pulled that thing out at least a dozen times and couldn’t figure out what to make with it, but I decided that this was the last time.
I was either going to figure it out or pitch it!
I studied it for awhile.
The top and bottom were sort of semi-circle shaped, so I rummaged around more for something that shape and found an old enamelware bowl. It had a bunch of holes in the bottom, and that got me thinking …
I had an idea now, I just needed one more thing, so I headed back in the house where I knew I had a few of these…
So, I put them all together, and what do you think I made?
Yep…
A rusty junk salvage hanging planter!
None of the stores have anything but indoor plants right now, so I bought some ivy to put in it, but as soon as all the flowers start appearing in the garden centers, I plan to fill this up with some pretty blooms.
I’m hoping it’ll look as pretty as this hanging planter with lobelia by Organized Clutter.

Vaya con Dios,
You are so so clever! What was that Item from?
It was a cross brace from an antique sewing machine table, Stephanie.
Perfect! Glad you’re getting your mojo back.
Thanks Karen – it was slow coming back, but I hope it’s here to stay! 🙂
What a great idea. I love it
Thanks Karen. I’m just glad I thought of something to do with that cross brace, because it was driving me crazy! 🙂
That is so cute! Love it! Have a lovely day, Angie!
Thanks so much, Margaret! You have a lovely day too!
Wonderful idea! Love it and looks like you got a little mojo back!
Thanks Debbie! I hope my mojo sticks around for a good long while! 🙂
I love it! Perfect way to use both those pieces. Awesome job.
Thanks Becky! 🙂
I love the use of the cross brace…but the frame is so cool…lol, but maybe it’s cause I’m a sucker for the blue flowers…either way great ideas! Sandi
I love those blue flowers too, Sandi – I hope I can get some growing in my plant hanger.
I beg your forgiveness but I think “Viya” is spelled “Vaya.” My aunt’s a Spanish teacher, I asked her, she said yes, “Vaya” is correct. And, I simply LOVE your imagination and what it comes up with regarding the sewing machine part!! Your ideas couldn’t have been better 🙂
You’re right, Mare I misspelled it there! Thanks for catching my typo! 🙂
That cross brace made a wonderful plant hanger, Angie! But one question: What are those clips you used to fasten the rope or whatever you used to the cross brace? They make it really unique. Good going, girl!
Naomi, they are fish clips from a fish stringer.
Great idea Angie. You can make something out of the most unusual junk! Love it all!
xo Dianne
Thanks Dianne – that cross brace was a tough junk nut for me to crack, so I’m glad I finally figured out something to do with it! 🙂
I have been through many different phases of home and yard decor, antiques. old junk, primitive and now vintage. I love them all…….. and have saved them all. I just cannot throw anything away and a lot of times pick up what other people discard! When I see your ideas, I just go “shopping” around my own place!! I truly enjoy your blog!
