Decorating on a Budget for Fall in the Farmhouse Entryway

Decorating on a budget can be tough.  We want our homes to look cozy and inviting – especially in the fall, but money doesn’t grow on trees, does it?

It doesn’t help that store shelves are filled with pretty seasonal decor, and everywhere you turn you hear about “must have” decor and “fall essentials”.

Very few of us “must have” anything more than we already own, and we are blessed with all the essentials we really need.

I admit that sometimes the “I wants” get the better of me, but when the budget it tight, it forces me to forget about shopping, and use things I already have.

I’ve teamed up with some of the best farmhouse style bloggers to give you affordable ideas and inspiration for fall decorating.

I’ll bring in some pumpkins and decorate more of my house when it gets closer to Thanksgiving, but I spent an afternoon transitioning the look of my farmhouse entryway from summer to fall.

Since I didn’t want to spend a lot of money, I relied on free natural decor.

I love the corrugated metal & pallet wood frame hanging on my chalkboard wall.  I cut goldenrod, and added some to the mason jar.  I switch out the flowers frequently with whatever is in bloom.

My rusty “junk” collection stays hanging on the antique date nails year-round, I just added a few amber jars and a basket with pine cones.

I brought out one of my favorite baskets, and filled it with more goldenrod.

I have no idea if goldenrod dries well, but I guess I’ll find out, since there’s no water in the basket. 🙂

I moved my milk painted antique roll top desk back into the entryway, put a few mason jars on top.  I spent $5 to fill them with wheat, feathers and sprigs.  It was all half price, and that was my only expense.  Everything else are things I already had or made.

The wood shutters my husband and I made are one of my favorite things about the entryway.  They allow lots of natural light in, but can be closed for privacy.

  1. That is one amazing entryway. I love all of the autumnal accents sprinkled about.

  2. I totally agree, Angie. Decorating on a budget can be a fun challenge and you’ve done a fantastic job!

  3. Very pretty Angie!

  4. Beautiful Angie! I just love the little touches, and I can so agree with trying to find budget ways to decorate. I love finding natural items to add to the home to save on money!

  5. The golden rod is just so so pretty against the white of your shiplap! What a pretty and soft beginning to fall,Angie. A big thank you for putting this fun farmhouse tour together!

  6. Love your vintage farmhouse style, Angie! Everything looks amazing!

  7. Angie, This looks great – shopping my house and yard is one of my favorite ways to decorate! Thanks for the great ideas. The golden rod is gorgeous

  8. I love your frugal fall decor. I am shopping my home this year, too, with the exception of buying apples and I will pick up some real pumpkins eventually. The goldenrod flowers are lovely. At first I wondered if goldenrod is the same as ragweed – which I’m highly allergic to – but I looked it up and was happy to see it’s not the same. I’d love to add some goldenrod to my decor, but I’m not sure which one I’d actually be finding out in the fields. LOL

  9. So pretty, Angie…I just love the look of goldenrod for fall!

  10. So inviting Angie! I had lots of golden rod at my previous home but haven’t planted any here because it spreads so badly. I do love the look of it! I have an old scale like that and hubby just hung it out on the she shed with me. I love your metal frame piece.
    hugs,
    Jann

  11. Angie, loving the simplicity of it! And that chalkboard wall is fabulous! Having mason jar envy. Nothing like a farmhouse welcome for fall.

  12. Beautiful job. Not sure I could go the goldenrod but I love the rest.

  13. Gah! Your home is totally breathtaking! I love this post, thank you so much for sharing such beauty with the world.

  14. I really like the use of the wash board. Those vintage items always make a house feel more like a home. Plus, the wheat stems are an excellent touch.
