Get Well Soon or Mother’s Day DIY Flower Vase Bottles

I had the most brilliant idea yesterday.  One I was sure would be SO much fun.

“We should go to the State Fair”!  … I told my sister.

She wasn’t quite as excited about the idea as I was, but I remembered all the times I’d taken my kids when they were little, and we’d had so much fun, so she went along with the idea.

It was dollar ride day, so I was excited to ride roller coasters and such with my sister – just like when we were kids.

My sister and I grew up going to big amusement parks every single year.

We loved every ride, and the scarier it was, the more we loved it.

We quickly discovered that things change as you get older…

We rode TWO rides –  only TWO …

… and we both felt like we could throw up, and I had a pounding headache.

So much for my great idea. 🙂

Speaking of not feeling well, a few days ago, I whipped up the easiest “get well soon” gift for my mom.

She had been feeling lousy, with a capital L from her chemo treatment, so while she slept, I made her something I hoped would cheer her up.

She had these empty bottles in her craft room, and I thought they’d make perfect little flower vases.

I searched online and found two antique seed catalog images from the the Smithsonian Libraries.

I printed them at wallet size, so nine images fit on a page.

I used the Image Transfer on Glass method to apply them onto the bottles.

All of my previous transfers on glass were black and white images, and several people asked if color images work also.  As you can see, they work great!

I picked wild sunflowers growing near her house, so my get well soon gift didn’t cost anything to make.

I’ll be sharing another project I made using one of these images next week!
