Picket Fence Farmhouse Decor
Nothing says “farmhouse” like a picket fence, does it?
Of the four homes we’ve owned, none of them have had a picket fence, but I’m not giving up hope I’ll have one some day.
So I designed a new picket fence stencil in two sizes and made an easy DIY project with each size.
A few weeks ago my husband and I were in a thrift store, where I found very little, but I did find a tv tray stand with only two of the four original trays on it.
They were solid wood and in great shape, so for $5, they were coming home with me, because I had plans for them!

Supplies Needed: (affiliate links included)
small table
paint colors of choice ( I used Vintage Storehouse Tea Kettle & leftover white paint
wax
Picket Fence stencil (available in small and large)
magnetic dish (option, but very useful)
How to Do It:
1. Clean table well to remove dirt and dust.
My table was in good condition, so no repairs or prep work was needed.
2. Remove the tray top and spray paint one side, then let dry.
TIP: Keep a magnetic dish nearby to drop screws in. It’s a sanity saver so you don’t lose the screws before you can put them back in!
3. Flip the tabletop over and spray paint the top and let dry.
TIP: I spray paint things on top of cinder blocks outdoors. Any over spray on the grass will be mowed off.
4. Paint the legs. (no photo)
The easiest way I found to do this was to hold them up in the air while spraying (mine are super light weight). Set it down to dry, then rotate and finish the other side. It’s easier to get full coverage if you hold them up.
5. Tape the stencil in place and paint with a dry brush using light coats, then let dry.
Pretend you didn’t see my fingernails, which are very overdo for a manicure. 🙂
6. Protect the finish with wax or acrylic spray sealer.
I also used the small stencil on the decorative drawer that I gave a weathered wood finish.
I didn’t take photos while making it, but I just taped the stencil on the drawer and painted over it.
I was a five minute project, but really looks sweet on the drawer and will make a great planter or centerpiece.
I have a few more projects planned to make with it, but those will have to wait until I return from my son’s wedding.

I love these picket fence stencils! If i had a small granddaughter, I’d definitely use this for a border in a playroom for her and then add some pretty flowers, vines and butterflies! I could use the small one for scrapbook pages and either size for canvas or slate art! And, I have a photographer friend whom I could see using the large size to create a cute country backdrop for her photographs!
