A Personal Update

Happy New Year!

I didn’t want anyone to think I’ve fallen off the face of the Earth so I thought I’d give you an update.

December was really busy with non-stop therapy and doctor appointments.  My sister was here for more than a week and she helped me with cleaning and organization and filled my freezer with many meals ready to heat up which is a huge blessing.   My son and his wife came and spent a few days with us at Christmas time, and we celebrated in my daughter’s new home.

My daughter-in-law is determined to get me healthy, so she gave me a Magic Bullet so I could make lots of smoothies and healthy meals.   My daughter gave me one of those automatic vacuum cleaners and I’m enjoying a floor free of dust bunnies!

My walking is almost back to normal and my speech is improving a bit.

Before my stroke, I repurposed an antique window into a Christmas stocking hanger but didn’t get to take photos of it.

I painted it, then attached pallet wood to the back and added a few hooks to the front.

Since Christmas is over now, I hope to find another way to use it.

Since the fingers on my right hand are completely numb, I can’t type.

Fortunately, I discovered I can use the speech-to-text tool in Google Documents which helps me be able to type now.  It’s more work, but doable.

I hope to tackle my first easy painting project next week, so wish me luck!

  35. Robynn Peterson says

Sorry to hear about you having a stroke. My dear friend had one in July, she couldn’t read after so I spent every day reading to her over the phone. We read a lot of religious blogs and papers. But it was a good 6 weeks and then I would have her start reading parts and she improved so much just doing that little bit of ‘therapy’ the doctor was truly impressed.
Just keep up your walking and therapies and you will be close to normal again.Practicing makes those new roads in your brain! Be well and Blessing sent to you!

  36. I’m so sorry that your right hand is still numb, Angie. I hope it will get better soon. It must be a very frustrating time for you. It’s great that you have such a caring family.
    Sending you a big hug,
    Julia

And I’m sending prayers for complete recovery. I’m glad you found a way to type so you can continue the blog more easily than having to use the “humt and peck” method. 62. Angie I am sorry to hear about your stroke. Praying for a quick recovery and thanking God you have such a kind family.

  63. With all the holiday preparations and celebrations I am very behind in my e-mails and so, I only saw this new today. I am so sorry that you are having to go through this, Angie. What a blessing, though, to be on the mend and have loving family close enough to be a support. I love reading your posts – that is why i didn’t delete them, just held them ’til I had a moment. 🙂
You are such a generous and caring soul, I’ll bet your family is happy to pitch in and help out. Your can-do attitude is going to carry the day and I look forward to hearing bout your ongoing recovery.

  64. Angie, I am so sorry to hear about your stroke. Sending out prayers for a full recovery. I know you are a strong person and can handle whatever is thrown your way. So glad to hear about your family helping you. I think the hardest thing is to let people help. I have had lupus for over 30 years and when I am having a flare-up it is hard to be humble and let others take care of me. I am learning though since I just am getting over a pretty bad flare-up. So keep positive and prayers will be ongoing for a recovery.

    Hugs, Dianne

  65. Thank you so much for the update. I’ve been praying for you and hoping all is well. Continued prayers for much improvement.
