making the “beast” blend in – a rustic tv frame

Several years ago, I mentioned that my husband brought home a very large flat screen tv, and installed it on a swing out arm in our living room.  Forgive the horrible photo, but this is what it looked like when he installed it. I had just finished papering the walls in antique Bible pages, and having a huge, modern monster attached over the top of them did not make me happy, but of course, our 4 kids wanted to give him {Read More}

Burlap, Cork & Cardboard Texture Background Printables

Sometimes you want the real deal, and sometimes you just want the look of it, so today, I have 3 texture background printables for you – burlap, cork and corrugated cardboard.  These might seem like unusual images for me to share, but there are some really fun projects they can be used with.  I’m working on one right now, which I’ll be sharing later in the week. You can create and print banners, and add them to anything from cards and scrapbook pages, to {Read More}

learning to focus with a little wire basket and fall apples

While I was waiting for my son to get done with his homeschool co-op classes, I had some time to kill the other day, so I ran into a little thrift store.  I’ve been really good about resisting the urge to bring new things home until I work through all the things already in my workshop, but I spotted this little vintage style wire basket for $1, and I couldn’t pass it up. I decided to practice the photography skills I learned about {Read More}

Antique Alphabet Printable – Ornate Font

I have another antique alphabet printable for you today.  This one is a book plate from 1906, and has an ornate font, that reminds me of Roman columns with acanthus leaves.   It would look wonderful as a framed print. Other antique alphabets can be found here, here, here, here, here, and here.

Photography Friday – Bokeh Effect by Changing Aperture

I’m super excited about this week’s Photography Friday lesson, because I learned about changing aperture to get the cool “bokeh” effect (blurry background) in my photos. Here’s a beautiful example from Anne @ White Lace Cottage.  See how the roses in the silver pitcher take center stage, but the baker’s rack in the background looks beautifully out of focus? Last week, we learned about changing the ISO setting, and what it does and why it’s useful, so if you missed that, check {Read More}

Antique Alphabet Font from early 1900’s

Today, I have a wonderful antique alphabet font printable for you, that is an early 1900’s book plate.  It would look wonderful framed for a child’s room, or enlarged as wall art.  It would look especially wonderful hanging on a chalkboard wall. {CLICK HERE FOR FULL SIZE IMAGE} If you like this alphabet printable, you might also like these.  Click HERE to see them all.

Vintage Floral & Craft Paper Gift Tags

 I’ve been playing with the Vintage Floral Papers and created some pretty gift tags with the purple paper and some craft cardstock. You can use the other floral papers and make your own, but I have the purple set finished as a free printable, so you can just print it, cut them out, and add some string. I had mine printed at Staples as a color copy, because I’m always so impressed with how beautiful their color copies are.  It only {Read More}

Vintage Flash Cards Printable – Vowel Sound Families
