Repurpose a Paint Can:
A few days ago, my husband and I were walking around Lowes, and I spotted empty paint cans that could be purchased, and it jogged my memory that I had one out in my workshop I could repurpose. I’ve had it for several years, and don’t even remember where I bought it.
When I got home, I dug it out of the workshop.
(and I really did have to dig for it – what a disaster it is in there!)
I may not remember when or where I bought it, but I do know why – it has great patina that I’m a sucker for.
Mine can is missing the lid, but I didn’t want to store anything in it any way. I just wanted to put some pretty baby’s breath in it. All I needed to do was hang a cast iron coat hook (affilite).
Yep… that’s it and that’s all.
Nothing fancy or super creative.
Just good old-fashioned reuse and repurpose.
A can with patina as pretty as this one didn’t need me to decoupage it, or paint it, or do a single thing to it.
I could just hang it up , admire it, and call it a day!
Seriously, I puttered around on several different projects, and putting flowers in this paint can was the only thing I actually accomplished!
Some days are just like that, but in the end, that pretty paint can filled with flowers made me smile.
And some days, you just have to be grateful that there was something to smile about, right?
I have dozens of almost empty paint cans in my basement that have paint drips and globs all over them, but imagine multi-color flowers inside a can with colored drips on the sides. I think that would be so pretty, and a great way to reuse something that would get thrown away.
This also got my wheels turning about other ways to use paint cans. They can be purchased online here, in gallon and quart sizes, with and without bale handles. Some are even clear plastic, so you can see the contents inside, which would be great for gift baskets, but would be handy for craft room storage too.
Hmmm… what should I make first? 🙂
Blessings,
I love the patina on old paint cans…I have one that I love using for all kinds of things. I never thought of checking the paint department…
I love the simplicity of this, and the babys breath is perfect for it, simplicity in itself, thank you for the idea 🙂
Great and clever idea Angie. Love this.

OK, now you’ve sparked my imagination as well! Thank you (partly for the imagination sparking and partly because now I might actually clear the garage out of all those “almost done” paint cans).
Can’t wait to see what you do!
(and Happy New Year!)
Clever idea! Thank you so much for sharing, and Happy 2016. 🙂
WE USE PAINT CANS FOR BIRDHOUSES. MAKE HOLE, SEAL WITH LID AND HANG.
LOVE this idea!! Where are the hangers from?
