I want to enjoy every last minute of summer, but knowing that autumn is just around the corner, I decided to work on a sign with a “give thanks” theme.
I designed a new stencil, based on the Bible verse from 1 Thessalonians 5:18, “In everything give thanks.”
The sign is very easy and inexpensive to make.
I bought a pine board and cut it about 20″ in length, then painted it white.
Normally I would use black paint for the lettering, but I used gray for this one.
I made the frame out of lath strips cut to size and stained.
To attach them to the board, I used a Power Shot staple gun (affiliate link) that I just bought.
It can attach either staples and small brads, so it’s perfect for projects like this.
I attached a wire hanger on the back to hang it.
All of my kids will be home for Thanksgiving, and we may have a few extra guests as well, so I plan to stencil the design on a table runner as well – probably a burlap one.
The design area of the stencil is about 16″ x 4-1/2″.
The stencil is available in my online shop HERE.
The painted sign is available HERE.
It’s been a long time since I made any book page canvas signs, so I’m working on a few of those too.
They aren’t ready yet, but I’ll share them when I’ve got them finished.

Vaya con Dios,
Lovely, Angie. I’m starting to think about Thanksgiving, too. I love the font you used – and the soft grey is befitting the message. Great work!
Thanks so much, Donna!
Very nice, Angie. I’ve just got to start stenciling! I really like the way it looks. I have an old cutting board that was my grandmother’s. I don’t want to use it anymore because it’s quite cut up already so I tho’t I”d make a wall hanging with stenciling on it. I’d like it to say, “Grandma’s Sugar Cookies” because that’s something my grandmother always had in her cookie jar!
My grandma always had sugar cookies too, Naomi! Good luck with your breadboard sign!
Very nice. And we all need to give thanks to God for everything!
So true, Terri – and not just in November!
