Right now, my life is all about my family, so while I’m not able to work on any new projects, I’m grateful to have Keri from Repurposing Junkie here to share a project that is all about family.
I’ll let Keri take it from here!…
Family Word Wall Art from Repurposed Junk
I blog mostly about repurposing and refinishing items, as well as a little home décor. I just want to say, “Thank you so much” to Angie, for allowing me to share a project with you all, here at Knick of Time!! I’m excited to be here today showing you how I turned junk into wall art!
I had an old frame that I wanted to change the artwork in, to something that fit my home presently. I took the picture and glass out of the frame, and set both aside to be reused in the future. Then I painted the frame an off white color.
We had a piece of paneling just lying around waiting to be used, so it was cut to fit the frame, and painted white.
I stapled the paneling into the frame. When I staple art back into frames, I use a heavy duty staple gun. I angle the staple gun down at an angle pointing towards the frame, and about 1/8 of an inch away from the frame.
I decided I wanted to fill the frame by spelling out the word “Family” using leftovers and junk I have in my repurposing pile. I started out trying different items for each letter. Not all the letters you see here made the cut. In the end I switched out some of the heavier items, so that I could attach all the letters using hot glue.
I spray painted all the junk with black spray paint. I then used a hot glue gun and glued the various pieces together to make the letters. Then I hot glued the letters onto the paneling.
I also stenciled some designs into 2 of the corners.
I think this would be perfect on a gallery wall with family photos surrounding it.
The junk I used to make this: F-a piece of old trim; A-metal from an old window; M-springs and insulated electrical wire; I-piece from a hose clamp ring and a flower from a curtain hanger; L-another piece of trim; and Y-a handle from a broken stencil brush and a piece from a lamp.
What do you have lying around that could make some Junky Wall Art?
I’m so glad that I was able to share this project with you at Knick of Time!! Thank you!!
