Getting Started with Chalk Couture: USA Liberty Sign & Video

DIY Rustic Farmhouse Patriotic USA Shape Home Decor with Chalk Couture |

I’m so excited to announce that I recently have become an Chalk Couture Independent Designer!

Since July 4th is less than a month away, I decided to make a USA Liberty sign.

I’ll show you just how easy it is to do!

The photo, written instructions, and video tutorial are all below.

First up, the video!

Now, for the supplies list and photo tutorial.

Supplies used: *Affiliate links are included to hope you find the products I used.

Small standing chalkboard (I got mine at Hobby Lobby.)

Chalk Couture Liberty Transfer

White Chalkology Paste

Small Squeegee

Premium Clear Sealer Spray (This is the best online price I found.)

Getting Started with Chalk Couture

Chalk Couture is one of the easiest products to use to make amazing custom home decor and gifts.

Here are a few tips that will help you get started:

  • Trim the transfer if needed along the cut lines.
  • Remove the transfer backing by peeling it off from side to side so you don’t distort the transfer.
  • Mark the back of the backing paper on the non-glossy side so you know which side not to place the transfer back on when you’re finished.
  • Place the transfer sticky side down on an old towel and press the transfer down.  This is to remove a little bit of the stickiness so it doesn’t permanently adhere to your surface.
  • Remove the transfer from the towel and smooth it onto your surface, making sure to get any air bubbles out.
  • Stir the Chalkology paste with a craft stick.  It should be a consistency similar to Greek yogurt. If it seems too dry, mist it with water in a sprayer.
  • Dab the Chalkology Paste on your transfer and use a squeegee to spread it across the design.
  • Work quickly so the paste doesn’t dry out.
  • If you’re working with a large transfer, keep some damp paper towels on hand to lay on top of the paste to keep it from drying out while you work on another section.
  • Scrape excess paste off the squeegee back into the jar.
  • Gently lift up the transfer and allow the design to dry.  You can also use a blow dryer or heat tool to speed up the process.
  • If you want your surface to be permanent, spray it with a sealer or Easy Peasy Wax Spray.
  • To clean your transfers, place them in a container of water and use a Clorox wipe to remove the paste.  Flip it over and repeat on the other side.  Place the transfer sticky side up to let it airdry.
  • If you got any paste outside the transfer area, you can clean it up immediately with a wet cotton swab.

That’s it.  Done!!

  1. Love that liberty sign and many of the products on your Etsy site. I especially like the kitchen boxes made from the cutting boards and holding paper towels on their handles. How cute and clever!

  2. Looks interesting, Angie. I wasn’t able to see the video, though, when I clicked on the prompt, “First up, the video.” Any idea what the problem might be? Has anyone else had the same problem?
