Heartwarming Movies & Favorite Finds: August Edition
Generally, I start out my favorite things posts with favorite finds, but this month I want to start with movies … and I watched quite a few movies that tugged at my heartstrings.
Mary & Martha Starring Hilary Swank, Brenda Blethyn, Sam Claflin
Mary and Martha is a heartwarming movie about two women who both lose their sons from malaria in Africa. I don’t think it’s a true story, but it was enough to make me want to research more about it. It’s hard to believe that something as simple as mosquito nets could drastically reduce the number of deaths, particularly in children. This movie is well worth watching.
Temple Grandin Starring Claire Danes, Catherine O’Hara, Julia Ormond
Temple Grandin is a true account of a woman who did not talk until she was three and a half years old. She received early speech therapy. Her teachers also taught her how to wait and take turns when playing board games.
Today she has a PhD and is a professor at Colorado State University. Half the cattle in the United States are handled in facilities she designed.
She has authored several books, including the new release Calling All Minds: How to Think and Create Like an Inventor.
It’s a wonderful movie with a great cast.
Pay it Forward Starring Kevin Spacey, Helen Hunt, Haley Joel Osment
I love nearly any movie with Helen Hunt in it. I think one of my favorite of her movies was Cast Away with Tom Hanks.
I saw Pay it Forward a long time ago but recently watched it again. Still liked it!
Lion Starring Dev Patel, Sunny Pawar, Rooney Mara, David Wenham, and Nicole Kidman
Lion is a movie that is both heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. I saw it last year in the theater when it came out and watched it again online recently. The child in it is an amazing actor for a such a young person. It made me cry again!
Christopher Robin Starring Ewan McGregor
While my sister and niece were here visiting, we went to see the Christopher Robin movie, and oh, my heart! I rarely stay awake during movies, but I did for this one. If you haven’t seen it yet, I highly recommend it!
Now it’s time for my favorite finds!
First up is this adorable Garden Gate Napkin Holder with Glass Jar Salt & Pepper Shakers.
Next, I have an equally adorable Oil Painting Style Cow Pillow Cover. It’s only $3.62 with free shipping!
I have loved Laura Ingalls since reading my first Little House book as a child, so this handmade Laura Ingalls Quote Sign wraps up this month’s favorite finds.
Vaya con Dios,
I love your movie picks. A few weeks ago I wanted to go to the movies, yet there wasn’t any good “chick flicks” playing. I suggested Christopher Robin, but she said no. 🙁 We went to Mama Mia. I’m not a movie critic, but, there was only some good parts in the movie, otherwise I gave it 3 stars. I absolutely love the cow pillow, so sweet.
Too bad Cindy. You would have loved Christopher Robin!
I hardly ever go to the movies, would love to so Christopher Robin, i use to read those books to my sons and grandsons and i still love the song. Love cows,so may get this pillow. Thanks and have a great weekend.
It’s worth seeing Marlene, but just wait til it comes out on Amazon or Netflix.

Angie, I love your garden gate napkin/shakers find. I have to wait and watch movies when it’s winter and too cold to get out! I’ll keep some of these in mind.
