In this post: A Reversible Farmhouse DIY Wood Tray or Sign
The beauty of making a tray that is reversible is not only that you can display either side, but that you can make it whatever size you want as long as the image you select fits on the wood.
There are multiple options for embellishing your tray.
You can use an adhesive stencil as I did, a regular stencil, or vinyl.
What you’ll need to make a Reversible Farmhouse DIY Wood Tray or Sign:
- 12″ wide board
- Wood stain or paint
- Screen door pulls x 2 (for tray)
- Gather & Grateful adhesive transfer or Stencil
- Chalk paste or paint
- Squeegee or stencil brush
Directions:
Cut the board a few inches taller and wider than the design you’re going to put on it. My board is 12″ x 18″.
I had it cut at Lowes at no charge.
Stain or paint the board and let dry. I stained mine with Minwax Early American color. It’s my favorite go-to shade that I use on all the farmhouse wood totes that my husband and I make.
Affix the adhesive transfer to the board, or if using a stencil, use painters tape or stencil adhesive spray. I’m using the Gather & Grateful adhesive transfer. Both words come in this set, so I used each word to make the tray reversible.
Make sure the words don’t have any bubbles or gaps so you won’t get any bleed and the words will look crisp.
Apply chalk paste or paint over the words and carefully remove the transfer/stencil and allow it to dry.
Spray both sides with clear sealer to protect it.
On the edges of the tray, drill pilot holes for the handle’s screws, then attach the handles.
That’s it! It really is an easy project to make.
Waiting for the wood stain to dry is the longest part of the project.
I’d love to hear what you think of this tray and I’d really appreciate if you pinned it!
