Repurposed Jeans Pocket Apron

Those of you who follow me on Facebook, may have seen a tutorial that I shared from another Facebook page, for a repurposed jeans pocket apron.  I thought it was such a great and super easy idea, that I decided to try it right away, before I could forget about it.  For those of you who didn’t see it, I thought I’d share how it turned out.

We all have jeans that either don’t fit, or are stained, so this is a really useful way to repurpose them.  It took less than 5 minutes to do.  Here’s how:

Lay the back side of your jeans out flat.

Starting a few inches below the back pockets, but all the way across the jeans, from side to side.

Flip the jeans over, and beginning in the center at the zipper, cut just underneath the waistband, stopping when you get to the side seam.

Then, starting at the bottom of the cut of pant legs, cut up the side seam, to the cut you made along the waistband.

This is what the front and back will look like (from the side seam).

That’s it!  Put it on, with the button/snap side at the front, and it makes an awesome place to hold your cell phone, paint brush, screwdriver, etc., while you are working!  Isn’t that genius?!!  I don’t know who thought of it, but it’s an awesome, cheap, easy & green idea!

  1. I had to laugh when I saw this, Angie…my husband just had a pair of old jeans he was going to throw out, when I stopped him and said I wanted them for a project. I just didn’t know what I was going to do yet lol! Now I know! Thanks for sharing!

  2. yes, I saw this too – and appreciate you re-posting – it is a brilliant idea!

  3. You always have awesome projects, I have several jeans laying around ,think I’ll make one. Thanks!!!,

  4. This is so neat! Thank you for sharing…I may have to try this 🙂

  5. What an awesome idea! Thank you for sharing!!!

  6. Wonderful idea that is going to come in handy holding small garden tools when I start “spring cleaning”.

  7. I also saw the project on FB page this weekend. Really a cute idea…glad to know it was truly simple and only took a few minutes. I want to make one soon…I’m always stuffing small tools in my back pockets and then carrying them off somewhere they don’t belong. Enjoyed seeing your version!

  8. Ooooooh! This is sooo cute and goodness knows we have lots of jeans at home that aren’t fit for daily wear!!! We’re on vacation right now and I can’t wait to get home to do this! I know, crafts instead of vacation!!! What is wrong with me!?!

  9. Thanks Angie … I saw this reciently too and had plans to make several, but … guess what, I just donated a ton of Mr. Z’s too-small-jeans to the Thrifts. I feel good that others are getting use of those good jeans, but believe me, I will fine some that I can make a few of those aprons. Always need pockets.
Thanks for the good tutorial and reminder to do this.
    Hugs,
    Audrey Z.

Great idea! Keep in mind, though, that if your jeans are old Levi’s, they can be worth a lot of money on Ebay, so I’d check that first before you rip them up!

  11. Well, isn’t this a handy idea? I’m definitely doing this one because I never seem to have enough hands. This will be especially handy when up on a ladder doing stuff, I think. Great project!

I’ve been making these for years! Sell them at craft shows. But I do fancy mine up a bit…I cut them a little closer to the pocket and add a ruffle of fabric.

  13. I’ve got a pair of Jeans tucked away in the closet for this purpose! I think it’s awesome. Thanks Angie!
