It’s been several weeks since I posted a “Get the Look” project,
but I came across this set of 3 Sheep Shears on Stands sold by Relique for $199.
I have several pairs of old sheep shears, so I thought I’d make a stand for one of them.
I tried to figure out a way to make a similar stand and thought metal hooks
used for pegboards might work, but I couldn’t find hooks long enough, so I decided
to come up with a stand of my own design – a more primitive one. Here’s my version.
The wood block at the bottom is scrap left over from our bathroom remodel,
so it is aqua colored on the underside. The taller piece of wood is salvage
that came out of our kitchen walls when my husband “gutted” it for remodeling.
As with most of my Get the Look
projects, I only choose ideas that I think I can inexpensively recreate – preferably from
supplies I already have on hand, so I went digging through my piles of junk to
see what I could locate. Here’s what I came up with to use.
Originally I planned to screw the long piece of wood into the smaller wood piece, but
the the smaller piece wasn’t big enough to provide balance, so I picked a bigger block instead.
I then realized a screw would have split the longer wood piece,
so I attached them together using an little, old hinge instead. After that, I just needed to
screw in the old coat hook to hang the shears on. Done!
No, it isn’t an exact replica, but it serves the same purpose for a fraction of the cost – it’s just more rustic looking. I didn’t spend a penny to create it, since I already had the sheep shears.

I have both of these pairs listed in the Knick of Time shop.

Very cute and so much cheaper than their version. I actually have a pair of those and never knew what they were.
Hello Angie! Love this idea!! We’d say that your version is much cooler than the original….fantastic!!
I LOVE projects that come out looking great and that cost me nothing or almost nothing!!! that is a great looking stand!
Great ideas, Angie! I wish you were here to help me figure out what to put above my cabinets in the kitchen. I want some nautical things…but authentic, not Hobby Lobby! Hugs!
I love to decorate with utilitarian items like the shears! They become art!
Thanks, Angie…I’m with Pam…I have these, too, and also did not know what they were!
Love It!!! I like your stand way better:) Thank you so much for linking this up to Rustic Restorations Weekend!
Came over from Rustic restorations. How very chic and frugal! I need to go through my tool collection – I haven’t made any of them into high art lately and they must be getting lonely. This would be beautiful in a sleek contemporary space where it would stand alone.
