Have you ever visited a blog, seen some amazing project,
and thunked yourself upside the head, thinking,
“Why didn’t I think of that?”
Well, I do a lot of thunking when I visit the blog of
and I feel blessed that she’s here today to share another one of those
head-thunking projects I love.
Welcome, Betsy and thank you so much for stopping by
for my blog birthday celebration! I hope you’ll make yourself comfortable
on my blog “porch” and don’t mind me while I hope some of your great ideas
rub off on me while we visit!

Hello everyone. I’m Betsy and I’m so happy to be here to help Angie celebrate her one year blogging anniversary. You can find me at My Salvaged Treasures where I blog about my flea market adventures and repurposing projects.
I’ve put together a few more hook boards from my collection of vintage yardsticks and rusty old hooks. I started making these a few years ago from all my hoarded yardsticks and posted about them a few times before here and here.
“You Never Had It So Wood”
Some of these old advertisements are just too funny.
The boards were cut from some scrap lumber I already had and then lightly stained to darken the ends and sides. The yardstick pieces are really easy to cut by hand using a coping saw or any small hand saw.
I like to round off the edges of the boards and yardstick pieces with some sandpaper so they don’t have that fresh cut look to them.
The chippy old hooks were sprayed with two coats of matte acrylic sealer prior to screwing them into the boards. Always pre-drill a hole to avoid splitting the thin yardstick wood.
I keep the placement of the advertising in mind when I’m cutting the yardsticks.
I glued down the yardsticks to the boards with wood glue and then used a few small nails just to make sure everything stays in place. To bring out more detail in the yardsticks, I wipe a coat of Howard Restor-A-Finish on the boards before I attach the hooks. A few saw tooth hangers on the back and they’re ready for hanging.
Thanks so much Angie for having me as a guest blogger.
