Last month when I did a post called, “Think Big“, I showed you a terrific industrial-looking display of metal stencils from Restoration Hardware that I love.
At $16 per letter, I didn’t love the price. Getting the whole alphabet would have cost $416 + tax and shipping! I don’t think so.{did anyone else notice that the the “K” appears to be upside down?}
I spotted a set of paper stencils with a similar look at Staples for $3.99 -that’s more my price range.
These are Gothic font in a 2″ height. 3″ height were also available for $4.99.
They are almost a card stock thickness. You get the whole alphabet, plus a few extra often-used letters, as well as the numbers 0 – 9.

Aside from displaying them all together, there are tons of fun things to do with them.

They were SO easy to make. I had a can of spray paint in “aluminum” color, which has a great metal look to it. It took less than a 1 minute to paint the whole sheet of stencils.

Left like this, they are a little too shiny, so I rubbed on some Valspar antique glaze.

Now they resemble aged metal.

The glaze gets into the texture of the paper and gives them “patina”.

$16 a letter?! That’s obscene!!!! I like your solution! Michael’s also has some for $1 each. I got the whole alphabet for $26. Did you hear that Restoration Hardware?! =)

I remember my first trip in to a Restoration Hardware on a trip to San Francisco. I was like OHHHh, I love thatttt and thattt and OH MY GOD it costs WHAT??? I’ll have to look on their web site to see what I can knock off too.

OHHHHH MY GOODNESS! Awesome! I was actually looking and looking for where you would tell me HOW TO CUT OUT the “Metal” stencils, I guess I missed the part that you were actually USED the paper stencils! I thought they were just the metal ones that you cut out and used PAPER Stencils for a pattern! DUHHHH, I love this much better and sooo much easier! Great Tut! I am your NEWEST follower!
