Brass Beauty

My local thrift stores have
finally started to realize
when they have something valuable,
and are pricing those items more
like an antique store would
(much to my dismay),
but fortunately, when an antique
arrives that is broken,
they don’t always realize it still
has value…at least to people like me,
so they still put low prices on those items.

For example, yesterday I picked
up a brass lighting candelabra at the thrift store.

One of the decorative elements
was broken, so it was priced
much lower than if it was fully intact.
(it was a piece just like this one)

But there are so many beautiful parts
left on this chandelier.

There are 4 more of the decorative pieces
that would make perfect wall hooks for jewelry
or other lightweight items and the arms
of the candelabra are just gorgeous.

No part will go to waste from this beauty.

I may not know today what I’ll do
with all the parts, but I guarantee that
someday down the road,
I’ll do something with them!

I sure hope the thrift stores continue
to view pieces like this as almost worthless!

I can frequently be found visiting these parties.

  1. I hate when thrift stores start marking up the prices on all the cool old stuff too. But you definitely ended up with a beautiful piece there. And what a great idea to use all the bits and pieces for different purposes.

  2. I’ve found the stores around here are doing the same thing with their pricing~just makes it a little more challenging!

  3. I sure hope they don’t catch on to the broken pieces. When we went to Goodwill it was packed with people, it does make it harder to find good pieces! Di@Cottage-wishes

  4. I can’t wait to see what you’re going to make with those pieces!

  5. I agree, the thrift stores are catching on and starting to realize that there are a lot of us out there who want to re-purpose the world. It’s getting harder to do but it still feels great to snag an extra special bargain once-in-awhile! Can’t wait to see what becomes of this bargain!

  6. Now was such a great find and I love how you are re-purposing it. I would love it if you could share this wonderful idea at our What’s It Wednesday linky party. I hope you can join us.

  7. You got some gorgeous pieces there! My thrift store is doing the same thing. But, it is so fun when you find something broken that you know you can transform!
