It’s an Illness

Hubby and I went spur-of-the-moment
house shopping today.
In the process of looking at the outbuildings on the property,
I spotted a old wooden-handled carrying crate.
It was like a beacon signaling me from the corner of the building.
I rushed over, grabbed it and took it outside
to ask the realtor if I could buy it.
The house belonged to this realtor’s grandmother,
so he could have sold it to me,
but he looked a little confused and thought I was joking.
…I wasn’t.
My husband mumbled something about my obsession with old stuff.
The realtor said his grandmother used to keep chickens,
so he thought she used it to carry her eggs and went on talking realtorese with my hubby.
Something else interesting about this house is that inside
aforementioned outbuilding, there was a big walk-in cooler.
Apparently they used to butcher their meat in that building,
and kept it in the cooler.
There is also a cellar…with a wooden cellar door.
I already have a wooden cellar door from our MO farmhouse…
but I really love cellar doors.
Here’s the cooler…and you can see that wooden crate back in the far corner,
on top of the metal trashcan.
Zoom in on the photo and I think you’ll undestand…
why at 5:30am…I’m still thinking about that crate.
Yes, it’s an illness.
If you have the same illness…you’ll understand, OR
you’ll just mumble something about people who love old stuff.

  1. did he sell it to you?

  2. I am guessing he did sell it to you since you were still thinking about it. Did you find any prospects of a home? Are you moving closer to Quincy? I hope so.
