In this post: A Home Key Hook because Home Is Where You Hang Your Keys
A few months ago, my husband asked if I would make a key hook. That was a very reasonable request since he hangs his keys with the measuring spoons and I go on a goose chase to find where I put mine.
I was in the midst of my 15 Days of Chalking projects, so I didn’t have time to do it just then. But then I received the Home & Wreath transfer in the mail. I waited until all my kids had gone home from visiting over Christmas to make his key hook.
Here’s the inspiration sign from Chalk Couture. I love that they give examples so you can just make one like it if desired.
I found another sign to use as my inspiration though from the dollar store of all places.
I have it inside the wreath in my remodeled bathroom. It looks like it has blueberries on it, so I went with that idea for my key hooks.
Here’s how I did it. First I stained the wood plaque and added “home”.
I forgot to take a photo of doing “HOME” on the plaque. The black paste bled a bit under the transfer because of the wood grain. It wasn’t bad, so I didn’t mind. The wreath comes with registration marks so you can easily line up the three parts of the design.
I put washi tape under the first layer so I could chalk over them for the next layer.
For the first layer I used Garden Herb chalk paste. It’s not too bright of a green. I dried between each layer.
For the second layer I used Storm chalk paste to keep it from looking like a Christmas wreath.
For the last layer I used Midnight Sky chalk paste for the berries.
I’m really happy with how it turned out. Now we finally have a real spot for our keys.
His keys are hanging on the hooks, but I forgot to hang mine! I have them on a carabiner clip and they were on my belt loop when I took these photos.
I can’t wait to use this transfer again for other seasons.
Do you have a key hook or put your keys in crazy spots like we did?

Totally charming and useful. If “looking for my keys” was an Olympic event I’d be a gold medalist.
Pinned!
