Moving Right Along…

I’m sure I’ve mentioned before that I’m an obsessive “doer”.  I always have several projects I’m working on at a time, and many more on the back burner, waiting to start on.  My husband and I spent the winter months remodeling our laundry room and men’s bathroom, and I completed many other projects for my home and shop, and we have done some work remodeling our bedroom, but now that the weather is nice, I tormented asked my husband if we could start an outdoor project.  He knows me well enough to know that there’s no such thing as a few weeks of relaxation time in between projects.  I believe in keeping up the momentum and quickly moving on to the next big project.
  We bought an old Winnebago RV last summer, but it’s just been sitting in our driveway being used as storage since then.  I want to do a little traveling this summer and get some camping in as well, so we really need to get cracking on getting this big Winnie fixed up quickly.

 In addition to needing some automotive work done, it also needs a complete makeover inside.  The previous owners had a very different style of decorating than I do.  They used a staple gun to hang bamboo fencing on most of the walls, as if that was an improvement on the ugly wallpaper underneath.  It appears they were going for a beach/luau look, complete with fish-shaped wall hooks hung on the walls.  Just not my style…at all.

On one wall, they did install some beadboard, which we would leave on the walls, if all of them had be done, but since the rest of the walls have the bamboo or ugly wallpapering, we’re just going to remove it all and start over.
We’re basically gutting the entire RV, because the bed is too small for my husband and I to sleep in comfortably, which means the built-in closet, shower, toilet and sink need to be torn out to accommodate a larger bed.  I can’t wait to get past the tearing out and rebuilding stage and get to the part I love – the painting and decorating. 

 I never know exactly how I’ll decorate until I start rooting through my workshop to see what will work, but I have an antique headboard that I’m pretty sure we’ll use and I have a few ideas floating around in my head, as well as lots more ideas I’m saving on my Happy Camper Pinterest board.  I’ll keep you updated on our progress.  Summer always seems to fly by so fast, so I’m hoping we can tackle this project fairly quickly and hit the road!

    My family and I would love an old RV. My boys love to camp but I get grossed out by the old RV interiors. I need to look at it as an opportunity to re-make a homey place.

    How exciting!
    We bought a camper 2 1/2 years ago…and guess what. We went after it like gang-busters at first. But then we lost steam after his heart attack…now it is sitting and yes, we are even storing some stuff in it for now. I’m hoping to get it up and going sometime.
    I can’t wait to see how y’alls RV turns out!

    oh how exciting! hubby and I love to travel and would love to find a camper and re-do it ourselves. keep us posted with the improvements.
