Ask anyone who knows me personally, and they’ll tell you I have a few quirks.
Quite a few quirks, in fact.
So, it’s no big surprise that I like to make things that are a little on the strange side.Last week, I shared 6 projects made out of salvaged chair parts, but I still had quite a few parts left over from the arm chair I dismantled. I had the curved piece that formerly made the front of the chair seat. There aren’t a whole lot of things you can do with a curved piece of wood from an old arm chair, but it was too cool of a piece not to try. I have a real love of old nails with patina, so I left them in the piece. The wood always gets a pretty “aged spot” where the metal goes into the wood.

I used some little U nails to secure 3 rusty bed springs into the wood. I didn’t put anything under the candles to catch the drips, but I think the springs will look cool if some of the wax drips on them.

I think it would also be cute with some glass test tubes in them to hold flowers, but our local school supply store doesn’t carry them, so I’ll have to order some online. If you’re a little quirky too, this one is listed at Knick of Time on Etsy.

Very clever Angie. It reminds me of the votive candle holders I’ve seen made from the wood of wine barrels. Glad you left the rusty nails:-)

Angie it’s perfect and smart and intriguing…and I LOVE its quirkiness. I just found some old metal coils in an old vacuum hose in pile of junk I stumbled upon and was thinking of maybe making vases with them, but this is too cool. Love how you incorporated the wood too.

We all have a few quirks, I love your candle idea. I recently found an old chair on the curb, and it have nine springs in it. I gleefully cut them all out, now you have inspired me.
This is the best idea yet I’ve seen with old springs. Do you know how many of these I have? I’ve held on to them for over a year now waiting for the perfect idea to come along. This is the best I’ve seen!! Very cool Angie!!

I knew you were a girl after my own heart when you called the nails U nails in your blog on the candle holder. I went into our local hardware store to get some “U nails”, as we were building a fence. Since I did not know what the technical name was I called them “U nails”. I thought every male that heard me was going to fall flat on the floor from laughing. (I am always worth a good chuckle). When they could talk they informed me the technical name is fence staples. We still get a chuckle out of that one. I love the candle holder and have some bedsprings hanging around and am going to put them to good use. Thank you for the idea and the reminder of the chuckle with U nails.
LOL, Joyce! To me, U-nails is so much more logical than fence nails, because they can be used on so much more than fences! Glad I’m not the only one who calls them by their rightful name!
