My Farm Country Kitchen in Cottages & Bungalows magazine

It’s funny how things turn out sometimes, isn’t it?  Way back in February, I entered the contest hosted by Whisperwood Cottage for a feature in Cottages and Bungalows magazine.  The theme of the contest was “before and after”.  You could enter a before and after project, or a before and after room.  I had both a project and a room, so I entered both categories.  The project I entered was my repurposed chair parts that I showed you here, and I entered my kitchen makeover.  I really wanted my kitchen to win, but I entered my chair parts, simply because it fit the theme.
In mid March, I was notified that my chair parts projects had won a feature, which came out in the August issue.  Needless to say, I was overjoyed to have won, but my heart was really in the kitchen makeover, so I was a little disappointed that my kitchen didn’t win instead.  What I didn’t know was that something much better was in store for my kitchen.
Midway through the month of April, I was checking through the junk mail file in my email, because some of the comments left on my blog go directly to junk mail for some reason, so I was moving them to my regular email inbox and responding to them.  As I went through the long list of junk mail, I saw there was a message from someone named Jickie Torres.  This is what her message said…
I found your kitchen makeover via my dear friend Amy @ whisperwood cottage. You entered your project into her first project of the year party and  I have to say your makeover is stunning! While I didn’t include you in the round up list I just sent to Amy, it’s only because I thought your project and your photos deserved a separate spotlight. You see, we have a kitchen profile in every issue and I would just love to profile you an in upcoming one. Would you be interested?
I look forward to hearing from you,
Jickie

WOULD I BE INTERESTED?  Do birds fly?!!
After picking my jaw up off the floor, I ran screaming like a complete idiot to my husband who was in our bedroom.   I’m not sure he understood a word I babbled, before I went running back out of the room to call my mom.

Because the message had went to my junk mail, I hadn’t responded to Jickie, and she even sent a second message to see if I got the first one.  Thank goodness I checked my junk mail that day, or this would have never become a reality….

It’s been incredibly difficult for me to wait patiently for over 3 months for it to hit the stands before telling you all!  I don’t want to give it all away, but there are 5 pages featuring my kitchen, as it’s their special kitchen issue.  It is a really wonderful issue, which you can find at Walmart, Lowes and many other stores.

Thank you, Jickie, Editor of Cottages & Bungalows, for contacting me and being such a huge help, and thank you to staff writer Jennifer Milas-Gaudet, for writing such a great article to accompany my photos.  I’m incredibly honored!

Blessings,

Angie

  21. I will be sure to check it out as soon as I get to the store! You deserve this and should also submit your bathroom makeover to some magazine or at least tell your magazine contact so she can guide you. They have many magazines and surely one will be a good fit for it. I was in a magazine years ago and it took them one year to get it to print. A freelance photog couple from Pennsylvania came for two days shooting our home. Then it ended up in 5 different magazines. I found out that they load the pics in the computer system and then they are a free for all to all the other magazines that they publish. They don’t even tell you. So beware that your pictures will show up in other places now. I did get paid $300 for the first issue but was it worth the headache…not to me. It was fun once. Sounds like its about time to invite me over to see you home!

  22. Angie, you deserve this and more. Blessings
