You may or may not remember this clock that I gave a paint makeover to last year. A few days ago, I asked my husband to remove the clock’s face for me, so I could scan it and share it as a printable with you yesterday.
Once I got a good look at those beautiful gears hiding beneath the face, there was no way I wanted to sending them back into hiding again. They are a work of art, that need to be seen to be appreciated. The wooden frame of the clock really wasn’t anything super special, which is why I painted it in the first place, and the glass that covered the face got accidentally broken, so I didn’t have a problem with taking it apart and using the pieces. I’d love to someday actually purchase a much older working wall clock, so I’ll keep my eye out for another one to replace it.
I needed something to attach the gear train to, so I used a wooden front from a drawer that I painted distressed. The gears covered one hole left from the drawer knobs, and I added an antique reproduction drawer pull to cover the other hole. I scanned the title of an antique hymn book page and inserted it into the top that is intended to hold a label.
Although I’m not sure that it would accurately keep time now, the pendulum will still swing when wound with the key, adding some interest to it as wall art.
If this is the kind of thing that makes your pulse “tick” a little faster, you’ll find it available in my shop here.
If you’d like a little lesson on the history of time and timekeeping, here’s a charming video that was made by the Hamilton Watch Company back in 1959. It was narrated by Burgess Meredith. Though I wasn’t alive in 1959, watching it reminds me of the films we watching in class when I was in grade school. I was always overjoyed when I saw my teacher push the big metal cart into the classroom that held the film projector – knowing we were getting out of a regular lesson that day.
Blessings,
Angie

Yes, the clock works are much more interesting.
Once, I passed up a beautiful clock in the case … no face, just showing the works … have been kicking myself ever since.
Love what you did with this one.

How creative, I like it much better now:) It’s a beauty!
Angie that is wonderful! I totally love it! I took a clock apart earlier in the fall and still have all the stuff in a bag waiting for inspiration and time to do something fun with all the cool parts – I may have to use your idea as my inspiration and get it done!
Very pretty gears Angie…. and you will find another clock I’m sure 🙂
Genius! I love your clock gear art and the added touch of the handle and song title – so pretty.
