It’s still a bit early in the season, but I did find a garage sale on Friday. I need more “stuff” in my house like a need a hole in the head, but when I saw an elderly man was running it, I threw common sense to the wind and stopped to check it out. If you love rustic and rusty things – look for old men having a garage sale, because they usually have what I love!
I didn’t buy a lot, but I found a few old wood-handled tools, which I can never pass up, plus this adorably rustic handmade crate.
I didn’t take any photos, because it was so quick and easy, and you’ve seen me stencil lots of times, but I added some vintage style stencil wording on the side.
Seriously, it look less than 5 minutes to go from rustic cute to “rockin’ the farmhouse look” cute!
Garage Sale Find into Farmhouse Style Crate
The Sweet Harvest Produce Co. wording I added is part of a larger brand new stencil I’ll be showing you next week. I’m finishing up some sample projects for it now.
The crate is the perfect size to use on a kitchen window sill or as a table centerpiece, and I’m hoping to round up more pallet wood and create more boxes with the same size and style as this one.
My son bought his girlfriend some hydrangeas and I was envious of them, so I bought myself some too!
I’m still dreaming of having some huge blooming hydrangeas (affiliate link) growing along the side of my house, so I’ll plant these outdoors soon, but my thumb is as brown as can be, so I’ll be shocked and overjoyed if they survive.
I seriously need to get the motivation to clean up and organize my workshop, because I’d love to stop and shop when I see a garage sale this summer, and start going to auctions again, but I need to have a place to put whatever I bring home. We’ll need to drag everything inside the workshop out to the yard to clean it out, so I’m waiting for the weather to warm up and become more predictable before I tackle that project.
I’ve made excuses the last several years, but it has to get done this summer!
Vaya con Dios,
Here’s something else I think you’ll love! (affiliate link)
Produce Crates with Chalkboard Labels
Hang in there kiddo, sometimes I just have to tell myself JUST DO IT. Just think of what you may find once you get in that workshop and organize, treasures behold. It’s the only way to make room for more ! Love, love, love all you do, keep it up. Sandy
Sandy – my workshop is a nightmare! I need a serious shot of motivation to get me out there, because it’s going to be a huge job, but I know I’ll be glad once I finally tackle it.
I laughed out loud and you brightened my morning when I read “Old Man’s garage sale”, since those are my favorite also! I’m always the only woman digging through the “junk” in garages at estate sales. I found a wheeled tool bench that is now my kitchen island last spring……Thank you for the inspiration!
Linda
LOL – the more old man-ish a garage sale looks, the more likely I am to slam on the brakes, Linda – I always pass up the ones with tables full of clothing out front!
Here is a kick in the butt to get you going, Angie! With love of course LOL
Thanks for the kick, Debbie – I need it! 🙂
I am crazy about old boxes! Actually, I love boxes in general, but the old wooden ones are my favorites. I also love hydrangeas and have been wanting to plant two or three around my house. They are a little pricey for my budget whenever I find them, though, it seems. Maybe this summer will be the one that I find them at the right price.
I love old crates and i buy them when i can find them. You have fixed your find and it looks wonderful.
I love this look! This weekend I pulled out a wooden tool box to dsiplay mums in mason jars!
Gorgeous job, Angie!
