Months and months ago, I spotted some farmhouse style Christmas stockings via Country Living that were the picture of farmhouse Christmas perfection to me, and I’ve been wanting some like them ever since, and I finally have them!
Remember when I bought 20 pounds of flour, even though I was 1,500 miles from home – just because I loved the sack it came in?
I already had a vintage flour sack, plus the new one, so as soon as I got back home, I was gung ho to start making them.
I traced around one of my grain sack stockings to make a pattern.
I cut out the front and back for one stocking…
and then I quit.
I just never could talk myself into getting my sewing machine out and finishing those Country Living inspired stockings I loved so much. My sewing machine and I just rarely get along.
But, once I knew I was coming back to New Mexico, I realized two things.
First, I realized I could buy another Blue Bird flour sack.
Second, I realized that I might be able to talk my mom into making the stockings for me.
Now you might be wondering what kind of mean daughter I am to ask my mom to sew for me after she had surgery last week, but she can’t drive for several weeks, and she can’t lift anything that weighs more than 10 pounds, but the doctor didn’t say should could’t sew. 🙂
I thought it might be therapeutic for her!
She had both of the stockings whipped up in no time, and I just love how they turned out.
She liked the Blue Bird Flour sack to much, she bought her own 20 pound bag too. She has’t decided what she wants to do with hers yet though.
Even though these are stockings, I wouldn’t limit myself to only displaying them at Christmas time.
I’m not sure where I’ll hang them when I get home yet, but I know I’ll find the perfect spot for them!
By the way, thanks so much for all of your prayers and well wishes for my mom’s recovery. It was a fairly invasive surgery, but she’s doing pretty well.
Vaya con Dios,
HI, Angie, I know I’ve asked before…..HOW were the stockings made…are they lined?
They look really easy if not lined!! I like easy and I have grain sack fabric and want to make several of these…I’m into holiday crafting now. Thanks Karan
Karan,
Yes, they are lined. One of these days I’ll take step by step photos and write a tutorial for them.
Hee hee hee. I hit my mom up sometimes too when I don’t feel like sewing. The stockings are adorable.

These are so cool!
And now my mind is racing about all the “therapeutic Projects” I can get my mom to do for me…..(you may hear from her when I tell her you told me to do it.)
LOL – if your mom is as easy-going as mine, I’ll bet you can convince her to work on some projects too, David!
These are so cute! Pinning. 🙂
