This is Pico.
He’s the one with the furry face.
He’s my middle son’s best little buddy. But Pico has some problems, and as his human “mom,” I want to help him however I can.
When my son left home several years ago to attend college, Pico missed his boy in the worst way.
Even though we have two other dogs, Pico became like one of our kids – not just a family pet. He was lonely, and needed extra affection.
I’ve posted about him several times before, like when I took my son’s graduation photos.
Every time we go visit our son at school, Pico goes with us, and it’s like they’ve never been apart.
A few years ago, we discovered Pico had developed back problems that caused him pain – sometimes a lot of pain when it really flares up.
I made him a repurposed drawer dog bed to make him more comfortable. It’s at the foot of our bed where he sleeps at night.
Recently, I realized that eating with his bowl on the floor was still too much stress on his back. So my husband and I made an elevated pet feeding station for him.
We added a hinged lid onto an old wood crate with holes cut out for his food and water bowls so he can stand comfortably while eating.
We used a hole saw (affiliate link) to cut the holes. They come in all different sizes, so use one the size of your bowls.
The lid is just attaches with hinges from the back.
Inside the crate pet feeding station I put a plastic bin to hold his dry food , and there’s space on the side to hold single-serve food trays.
We serve the dry food at home and take the food trays when we’re traveling. Our larger outdoor dog loves them as a treat too.
He loves being with us at mealtime, so his new pet feeding station allows him to eat right by our table, without straining his back. I love that I can store all his food conveniently and it looks great in my kitchen too!
And in other dog news…
I was on my way home from the grocery store over the weekend when I came upon three young dogs and an adult dog.
They were right in the middle of the road, so I stopped my Jeep. The adult dog darted under a fence and took off running through a field, but the three young dogs swarmed around my Jeep, barking their adorable heads off.
I had no idea where they lived and couldn’t just leave them, so I’m sure you can guess what I did.
I hauled them all into my Jeep and took them home.
I’m such a sucker. 🙂
We called the Sheriff’s department and left my number in case anyone called looking for them, and my daughter posted about them on Facebook, hoping the owner might see it.
They were filthy and tired from romping through puddles and fields. They fell asleep within minutes of bringing them in the door.
When they woke up, they were thirsty and hungry.
Yes, this is a sponsored post, but I couldn’t have planned this if I tried!
The good news is, several hours later someone called and identified them, and they are all safely back home now.
So, what do you think of Pico’s new pet feeding station? Let me know in the comments below. I’d love to hear your feedback on Facebook and Instagram too!

Vaya con Dios,
animal, plant, matter, we all gotta have it. love, love, love
As usual, NO surprise here, I think your new dog feeding station is the “cat’s meow!!” LOVE IT!!
Mare, the funny thing is, my daughter’s cat keeps raiding the dog food now, and Pico isn’t too happy about it! 🙂
Angie love Pico! He looks like he is part dachshund? Our mini moxie is a family member for sure and we take her most every where. She enjoys going to school in the mornings and when we go on vacation. She adores her Nana!
Pamela, Pico is a Min Pin. He’s gained a lot of weight since his back troubles started, so he’s not all the “min” anymore!
This is such a smart way to keep all of your pet food together and easily accessible!
Thanks Marie!
