Ugly Duckling Transformation

I was leaving a thrift store today, when a man walked in with this little magazine table.

I asked him if he would be willing to sell it to me, rather than dropping it off for donation and he said they had just ended their yard sale and couldn’t sell it for 50 cents, so he’d be happy to!  I gave him $1 – big spender that I am.

If you look at the paint job, it’s hideous.  If you ignore that – it’s wonderful!    It was painted a really bright green, then had antique finish over that.

I brought it home and did a light sanding – just enough to remove any loose paint.

Gave it a base coat of paint – a little less ugly now!  More work to do though
Adding sheet music
The easiest method I’ve found to trim the sheet music is to use coarse sandpaper.
I rub it back and forth along the edges of the table until it is scored and I can pull it away.
This will distress the edges of the table, so if you aren’t planning to distress your piece, use scissors instead.  It also gives an aged look to the edge of the paper.
And the result…
 Bye, bye, ugly duckling!
