Taking a New Journey to Blog Land

I feel a little funny writing this first post on my new blog, because, well…I’m talking to myself right now!  Hopefully there will soon be followers who will join me on my journey!  I’m not sure I have the patience for developing a beautiful blog, so I may be hiring out to find someone to do that for me.

I really love things with a “history” to them – things that have lived in other homes, with other families and survived!  I often wish they could talk and share a little of their past with me.

For instance, we bought an old farmhouse in rural Missouri 6 years ago, after relocating here from New Mexico.  We think our home is around 100 years old.  The two upstairs rooms didn’t have any electric in them when we purchased it and there were many layers of wallpaper on the walls.  The dust was undesturbed – it looked like for years.  I wish I knew more of the history of our home – how many kids have lived here, what Christimas was like for other families here, etc.  We’ve dug up many bits of the farm history here – pieces of farm implements, part of a horse hame, etc.  I love each rusty piece we find.

We had stacks of old screen windows and 6-pane windows that had been removed from our home, some of them we turned into plant supports in our garden, some I turned into other projects, but I was looking for a way to get rid of some of them and hopefully make a little cash at the same time.  I was familiar with Etsy, so I decided to give it a try.  Heck, it only cost .20 to list an item, so I figured, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

This was my first sale:

That was enough to get me hooked!  I started by just selling things from my own home that I needed to get rid of (lots of antique windows too), but soon discovered that I needed to restock my “store”.  I started hitting every thrift store & yard sale I could find and have recently fallen in love with the world of live auctions.  The thrill of finding and winning things is better than chocolate!

The only drawback is that my home looks like an indoor flea market.  My dream is to someday be able to build a studio/workshop and get all of my goods and shipping supplies out of my house, so it can occasionally look clean.  The cleanest spot in my house is the “staged” area that I photograph my items in!

Well…it’s amazing how long I can talk to myself, isn’t it?

In the days ahead, you’ll see projects I’m working on and my plans to grow my business.  I’ll share how I made different projects, so if they inspire you, you can make your own!

Come back soon!

Due to unethical websites stealing content, I can no longer provide a full RSS feed. I work too hard to produce original and inspiring content to have it stolen by others. Thank you for your understanding – I appreciate each one of you that take time out of your day to visit Knick of Time!!

  1. Angie, I’m so glad to find your blog, you speak-ah my language, girl!!!
Love your clock faces! Old homes and other old things endure themselves to me. I like to paint- signs, canvases, furniture, etc…and to build a piece of furniture out of wood that someone else has deemed unworthy and thrown away, that’s just The best ever!I’m putting your button on my blog, Maki’s Little Red House.blogspot.com.
Wishing you the best of luck, Maki
