Livery Sign & Today’s Pickins’

I’ve got quite a stockpile of old wood right now,
which are all perfect for creating “antique” signs on.
I brought home 2 sections of super old wood
this weekend that were just begging to become signs.

I decided to create a Livery & Farrier sign on the smaller of the 2 pieces.
This old horseshoe was the inspiration for this sign.
I’ve had it for some time and was just waiting for the right
piece of wood to come along to use it on.
This wood was a perfect match.
Check out the amazing aging this wood has developed over time.
Truly gorgeous.
Painting a sign on this piece was a little more challenging,
because the wood is so deeply grooved.
I printed the words on the computer and came up with my layout,
then traced the letters with white transfer paper.
It was a slow, eye-blurring process filling in the letters,
and trying to keep paint from getting sidetracked in grooves it didn’t belong in.
Once all the lettering was complete, I lightly sanded over it,
so the paint wouldn’t look too fresh, then
sprayed some wood stain over it to darken the letters a little.
I added the horseshoe and some rusty, old square peg nails,
because I like signs that are also useful –
so this sign can double as a place to hang things.
I’m looking forward to creating another sign on the larger piece like this one.
Today’s Pickins’
Here’s a few of my favorite items I got
at the auction last night.
4 Wooden Sugar Buckets
2 Antique Fans
A Really Cool Metal Bucket & and Old Foot Pump
I’ve got a full day ahead of me.
Going to “fluff” my booth at the antique store,
then go have lunch with my daughter at college,
then grocery shop for the meal I am serving at church tonight.
Don’t forget
to enter my drawing for a bundle of
