When I showed you some of the goodies I
bought at the auction this week,
there were far too many to mention in one post,
but here are a few more I’ve gotten photographed.
At the end, you’ll see the strangest thing I purchased.
there were far too many to mention in one post,
but here are a few more I’ve gotten photographed.
At the end, you’ll see the strangest thing I purchased.
But first…..a set of old Pepsi bottles
that has already been purchased by
a props department for a theater on Broadway.
I wonder what play they might make their way into.
A lovely blue typewriter stand.
Aqua canning jars & an antique sauce bottle
I also got 2 antique tractor seats.
I love their work-worn appearance.
But the most unusual thing I got, by far,
was this…..
was this…..
I’m pretty sure it falls under the
“strangest thing I’ve ever purchased” category.
But since it no longer has live inhabitants
and didn’t come from MY tree…
I think it’s a work of art!
Look at the complete leaf that is
embedded in the papery wood pulp outer covering.
I wonder if a single hornet brought it to the construction site
or if it took a crew of them to do the job.
From the backside, you can see all the cells in the “nursery”.
And here’s the front door.
Here’s a portion of the branch it was connected to.
It isn’t often you get an up-close look at a hornet’s nest
(or would even want to when occupied),
so I found it really amazing and beautiful in its own right.
Quite a cozy little nest…….for a hornet.
Thanking God for my “nest”!
Job 12:7‑10
But ask the animals, and they will teach you,
or the birds of the air, and they will tell you;
or speak to the earth, and it will teach you,
or let the fish of the sea inform you.
Which of all these does not know
that the hand of the LORD has done this?
In his hand is the life of every creature
and the breath of all mankind.

Amazing . . .the wasps outdo us all with their craftiness, don’t they? That is really cool. . .thanks for sharing all of the pictures and the scripture, too!
we found a similar nest at our allotment this year…my husband thought it was empty but it had 3 or 4 sleepy looking inhabitants still inside so we left well alone. The detail is incredible and beautiful isn’t it just perfect. Thanks for sharing.

Just found you through Junker Newbie. Looking forward to seeing your purchases and adventures. Love the hornest nest. Not sure I would have bought it, but then would have regretted it.

Love the pepsi bottle even though I am a coke drinker. back in grade school out principal had a hornets nest I dont think I would have bought it though My hubby is allergic to hornets (even though yours is empty)
LOVE the hornets nest! I found two very large ones last year and they now reside under glass in my home. I have even noticed an ad in the local paper from someone who will pay “big bucks” for wasp’s nests. A friend of mine made ATCs from the paper once. They were beautiful.
I LOVE the hornets’ nest! And how fitting that right after I looked those pics I read the Job reference. Surely the Lord’s hand was in the creation of such a marvelous thing!
