A Cozy Sweater & Candlelight

If I had a fireplace mantle, I’d be lining the whole thing with these!

A few months ago, I got a bunch of fishbowls, glasses and vases at an auction.

All you auction-lovers out there, know how you can come home with oodles of things you didn’t want, but they came with something else you did want.  That was the case with these glass items.  It was finally time to do something with them.

I’ve been wanting to make some of these cable -knit candle covers for a while now, and finally
found a really big white sweater at the thrift store, so I whipped out my glue gun and spent all of 5 minutes making it – if that long.  Cut it, glue it, light it…that’s it.

The Cost?
$2.50 for the sweater + 1/4 of a glue stick.  I could make at least 3 more out of the sweater and still make a pillow besides!  That’s my kind of project!

I would have made a bunch more, but I need to buy more glue sticks.  I think I’ll add some scarves around the “necks” of some of them.  Wouldn’t that be cute?!

Bundle up in a cozy sweater & light some candles!

  5. That’s just darling!! So clever! (But knowing how careless I am with fiery things (like gas stoves and candles), I think I’ll use a flameless candle and just flip a switch!)

  6. What a fun and cozy look! I think the scarves would be a nice addition, or maybe a vintage necklace or brooch!

  7. What a great idea and I love the way you’ve Styled it in that Vignette that compliments it so beautifully!

  11. This is just adorable. I suggested this to my daughter since she is poor to make for her friends for Christmas. I love these. Today, I went to the Ohio Street Originals Christmas Open House…a tradition every year. If you haven’t been it’s at 10 and Ohio and open tomorrow from 10 to 3. Anyway, I bought the cutest sweater purse complete with three roses made out of sweaters too. My middle name is Rose so I was buying this. I know, I could have made it but a lady from our church made it and for only $20, why would I bother. It’s so pretty, soft, fun and wintery.

  12. So creative!

Way too cute, Angie! When I initially glanced at the first image, I thought you were making the head of a snowman out of it. Hmmm! That might be a cute way to use it, too.

Thanks for linking to Time Travel Thursday again this week. I love seeing your current creative projects.

  23. I have a white sweater and some “rose bowls” tucked away in my cupboard for a winter project! I LOVE how you have the button on the front of yours. Sweet!! Gonna pin this one!

  24. So cute!!! I’m sure this is a lame question…but how exactly did you make it?

  26. Jo Ann – just cut the sleeve from a sweater as long as your jar, leaving about 1 extra inch to fold underneath the jar. Cut small slits into that 1 inch, so it’s easier to glue them onto the jar. Use hot glue to glue those sections down. Done! Super easy!

    Hope that helped!

  27. Okay, loving this idea. I’ve got to do this. I have sweaters that I love but no longer fit 🙁
Thanks for sharing such a great idea!

  28. I really like these – I saw the ceramic version in Crate’s Christmas magazine this year and thought “I could make those” – but I haven’t yet!! I need to go to an auction, I think 🙂

  29. I love these! I saw something similar at Crate & Barell and I loved them! So glad that you showed how to do these. Guess I am going to be heading to the thrift store today! Thanks so much for the inspiration! Have a happy weekend!

  30. Very cute idea! I love how the glow of the candle shows the patterns in the sweater-and the pinecones are great too. I made a wreath out of a white scarf-I agree sweaters are so cozy for decorating in the winter. Great job!

  31. I love your candle cozy. The whole vignette is beautiful.

    Have a blessed day.
