being shown all over blogland –
trees in all white, Victorian theme trees,
French theme trees, primitive trees,
& rustic trees.
And then there’s MY family’s tree.
It doesn’t have that pulled together look.
It has no theme.
Nothing matches.
It’s like a little mutt dog,
with a face only the owners could love.
Every year my kids receive
new ornaments for the tree.
Some ornaments are spiritual,
Some are bright & festive,
and some are a snapshot in time.
Some are very childish and handmade,
while others have a more refined appearance.
And then there are the traditional ones.
Sometimes I wish I had a vintage-style tree,
with nothing but white lights,
antique lace for garland
and little vintage treasures.
I may never have that kind of tree,
but I do have a tree filled with
the memories of Christmas past in our family.
You just aren’t going to find it
on the pages of a magazine
and it won’t astound anyone with its beauty.
But, that’s okay.
It’s a tree only a mother could love.

Awww…we have the same kind of tree at our house. No “theme”…just a lot of “special” ornaments made and collected by little hands…all hanging low and way too close to the end of the branches 🙂 Thanks for sharing your wonderful tree…I think you’ve inspired me to share mine too…thanks, Laurel
Hello Angie, I too love your tree. I am a mother too but of grown children. However, I did something unusual this year. I pulled out all my ancient ornaments and made a traditional tree in my guest bedroom. It is my favorite tree this year. It brought back such lovely memories of when my children were small, when we trimmed our tree for the children. Thank you for sharing your sweet tree and the story of decorating.
Hugs, Jeanne
This is just like our tree. My hubby had a ‘perfect’ tree growing up that no one was allowed to decorate but his mom. While when I was growing up, we had the ugliest tree imaginable with every hidious thing we made no matter how bad it looked after 10 years. SO when we got married, I dreamed of the ‘perfect, decorative’ tree and he dreamed of the ‘lived in family tree’. So now, we have 2 trees 🙂
and that is exactly what a Christmas tree should be. Until my kids took their own ornies…I had the same kind of tree. Some of the most beautiful things are not found in a magazine!!
your tree has the same theme mine does…FAMILY..!!i wouldn’t have any other kind!!!
yours is BEAUTIFUL!!!..it shines with love..!
Angie that is my tree exactly! Although now that my girls are grown they have taken some of their ornaments with them to their new homes. My tree means so much to me and when I think about having a themed tree I just know I would miss all my ornaments! Hugs, Linda
To me, being surrounded by items that conjure memories of those I hold dear means so much more than having something “perfectly” decorated. So, I’m with YOU, Angie! 😉
Thanks for linking to Time Travel Thursday this week. I love stopping in for visits.
