first day of snow with joy.
Normally, I enjoy snow –
especially looking out my window at it,
while I’m warm indoors.
This morning was the exception.
This morning I was woken up
{bah humbug #1}
by my oldest son saying, “Mom, it snowed and the
horses escaped and are running down the blacktop.”
{bah humbug #2}
He was getting ready to run out
the door to get to college,
so my daughter, {the owner of the horses}
my middle son and I jumped
in the van and took off after them.
Thankfully, we found them about
half a mile down the road,
so the kids got out and rounded them up.
Our road is somewhat hilly,
and there are many blind spots,
so I drove alongside them while
they walked the horses home,
to prevent a them from getting hit by a car.
As we are slowly making our way home,
(me – in the warm van
them – freezing their rear ends off)
a truck came up behind me and
honked and honked and honked his horn.
{bah humbug #3}
Apparently he didn’t notice
my hazard lights flashing and
the 2 horses he was spooking with his horn.
We did get them home, but knew
they would just try to escape again,
so my son quickly put up “bars” (a.k.a. junk lumber) and
we locked the convicts up in “jail”
(a.k.a. the machine shed).
Only 1 convict is visible here –
she’s shorter than the jail bars.
There they will remain until the Sheriff (a.k.a. my husband)
returns and figures out if they can
leave maximum security and return
to the stock yard, (a.k.a. the pasture).
Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb
{a.k.a. Shimmery & Indy}
are quite upset over their imprisonment,
and the little convict {Dee} is planning their next escape.
Don’t let her size fool you –
she’s the instigator of all the trouble they get into.
Tweedle Dumb is cute…but kinda gullible,
and follows her into the dumbest escape attempts.
Bah Humbug
on the First Snow of the season
and the convicts that thought they
could use it to hide their tracks!

A cute story from where I’m sitting but must of been a pain in the a when it was happening. Horses are sometimes too smart by half.
Your right we had different reactions to the first snow. But if I was chasing down horses in the snow I would not be very happy either! Laura
So funny. I’m a bah humbuger vis-a-vis snow as well. That is probably the product of four years in Syracuse, NY for college. I had MORE than my fill during that time! Hoping you have no more break-outs requiring a round up.
How funny! Its always the cute, innocent ones that are usually the ring leaders! My sweet, beautiful basset hound that gives off a gentle vibe is the mastermind of most of their crimes and my other basset that has an aggressive approach and is completely louder does what she says! Hopefully the rest of your winter is warm and cozy!
