Down a Country Road – Old Farmhouse Barns

One of the joys of living
in the rural midwest….

Old Barns

Getting settled into our new home
has kept me from scouting around much, but I finally
took a drive down the nearby roads to see what I could see.
We live on a gravel road in a farming area, where
there are almost as many barns as there are homes.

What treasures on the landscape these are.

We took our Christmas photo in front of this one.
It’s a hop, skip and a jump from our home.

Another one right down the road.

This one is my dream barn!

A good old machine shed…resting for the winter.

Big white beauty – also on my road.

All’s silent at this barn out in a field.

 I passed an abandoned farmhouse.
It was very run down and even the
driveway was completed overgrown.
If I knew who the owner was
I’d be begging him to sell me these porch posts.
The tattered cloth hanging from the porch
looked so haunting blowing in the breeze.

This fabulous piece of farm machinery
was sitting in someone’s front yard.

Ahhhh…look at those old wheels!

I hope you enjoyed this little bit of farm country bliss.

Blessings,

  1. I can’t tell you how Bad we Want to be on a Farm…, we would even live in that old run down one…. Okay, maybe that’s a bit of an exzageration… Just a bit… 😉

  2. Hi, oh how I love old barns! the stories they could tell. We have one behind and just W. of our home. We had a wonderful view of it until we fenced. 🙁 Had to choose between seeing the barn or keeping deer from eating everything. Those posts are to die for! A local shop had four turquoise ones I want so bad. $150. each. Wow, a bit high. Keep thinkin she’ll come down. Not so far. Let me know if you happen to luckily snag them. Congrats to the winner of the canvas. Was going to come back and enter. Got back too late. Darn, maybe next time.

  3. Have to say I love old barns! I would love to live in one, after it was fixed up of course, not keen on all the creepy crawly that live in them! :0)

    Great pictures, thanks for posting.

  4. Such a beautiful tribute to the American way of life. Thank you for sharing these great pics. Blessings,

  5. Angie, You should be able to find out who owns that house. Your tax office can tell you where they send the tax bill if you give them the address of the abandonded house. At least that is the way it works in KY. Good luck. I found you on Lovely Crafty Home. Susan
