Musical Memories

My dad was a huge fan of musicals,
when I was growing up,
and he frequently had an album
playing on the record player.
He particularly loved words and lyrics
by Rogers and Hammerstein.

So my sister and I
not only learned them…we loved them,
and loved to sing along.

Imagine my delight when I
won the bid on a huge lot of
old sheet music at the auction house,
and sorting through them found
some of our favorites.
Just looking through them brought
back immediate wonderful memories,
of singing along with our favorite songs.
Thanks for the memories, Dad!!

I adore every song from this musical!

 Another favorite with Shirley Jones

And Gene Kelly – how could you not love him?

I’d love to find music for “The King & I”.
Yul Brynner & Deborah Kerr were
amazing in it.  Who can forget,
“Shall We Dance?“

I wonder if our video store
has any of these I can rent?
My family can put some earplugs in,
because I can’t resist singing along.

Do you have any favorite musicals?

I can frequently be found visiting these parties.

  1. congrats on your faded charm feature, angie! wishing you a merry christmas!

  2. Hi Angie! I’m so jealous of your musical find!! Is there one in there with, “Bless Your Beautiful Hide” from Seven Brides for Seven Brothers???? That’s my fave! My 25 year old son was raised on that one, and he goes around singing that song in his ‘deepest’ voice and makes me laugh about it at all the most inappropriate moments he can!
    Have a lovely week!
    Doni

  3. I’m jealous. Truly. I grew up with those, too. I went to high school production of Oklahoma, got the video. My family all hate them. I have My Fair Lady, Sound of Music, probably more I don’t know locations of. Good luck finding them, though some are being made on DVD to preserve them, wonderful as they are.

  4. I adore musicals and the classics never get old!

  5. You found some really great sheet music. Musicals were such a big part of growing up for me, loved them all. Happy holidays.

  6. What a great find ! Happy Christmas ! Gail x

  7. That’s awesome, Angie!

I would love to score a find like that! I hope you find your King and I!

How funny that you had already written this post when I did mine today.

    Thanks for participating! : )
