it isn’t cool enough in most parts
of the country right now.
I guess I’m hoping that if I think summer thoughts,
it might arrive sooner!
The demand for them isn’t as high during
the winter, so you are more likely
to score one less expensively at an auction
than in the summer when it’s 90 degrees.
I love the look of an old fan,
and really don’t care whether it works or not.
I like them because they LOOK cool,
not keep me feeling cool.
When it comes to being comfortable – –
forget vintage – I want central air!
Most I have found at auctions still work though,
or need only an updated cord or plug.
Having said that,
I do like a working, old fan
for just ONE thing…talking into it.
If you are over 35, chances are pretty good
you remember sitting in front of a fan as a child,
and listening to the cool, choppy sound
of your voice as you talked into a fan.
It was cheap entertainment when
you were supposed to be taking a nap,
but couldn’t sleep.
Raise your hand if you remember
making funny sounds in a fan.

We have several vintage fans just because they are so cool to look at! Great collection you have.
I remember making fan noises! (I’m 23) We use our ceiling fans to circulate air and keep our windows open unless it’s really hot, luckily that’s not too common in Central NY. I’ll have to look for some vintage fans, I love your collection!
I love old fans. They’ve got such a neat look to them — especially compared to these dumb plastic box fans we’ve got now. (Of course the kids are probably less likely to lose a finger in teh plastic ones!)
I not only remember making funny sounds in a fan like these but actually sticking my finger in it. Yes it hurt and I never want to see the actually running as a result, but I do have a few in my home for decor.
My parents still use their old fan that I would talk into every time I saw it on……
I just picked up one at a local flea market, guess what I’m going to show my kids? 😉
My sister and I would always talk into the fan, but mostly saying “Luuuuke I am you faaaatherrrrr”, like Chris Farley did in Tommy Boy!
Anyways though, I love the look of those fans, what a great little collection you have! How wonderful! 🙂
Hand raised! I want a fan like those so bad and I don’t care if it works either!! Those are fantastic!
both my hands are in the air!!!
i must have been 4 or 5..my twin and i used to put chairs behind this huge old metal floor fan..3 speeds..and we’d pretend to be taking off and landing in an airplane!!..thats the fabulous sound it made!!..add our voices..sheer delight!!! loved to hear our vibrating voices!! the 50’s were sooo cool!!!
Those were the fun times! Have a lovely day, Kellie xx
some of my fav childhood memories were spent in front of a fan, making noises:) great fans and clocks!
My hand is raised, I remember sitting in front of those fans in hot Florida!! A new follower, Di@Cottage-wishes.
Angie … Love all the fans. I have some that I use and love the old time feeling and the whirl.
See you tomorrow for Knick of Time Tuesday.
Blessings.

I have a fascination for old vintage fans, too! You have a wonderful collection!
LOL! My hand is raised! Thanks for bringing back that fun memory. I LOVE old fans too. I’m wanting to get one to set out and admire. I’m right there with ya on wishing for summer. It’s my favorite season. Thanks so much for sharing at Show & Tell.

Raising my hand, too, Angie! LUV these fans! They bring back such sweet memories of laying in my bed on a hot summer night as the sound of the fan put me to sleep. 🙂 I have three of my own at my farmhouse now — just to look at because – yet – they do make you feel cool by looking at them. 🙂

Your right vintage fans are so COOL. I have a couple myself and use them year round to decorate with. They add such a great look to a room.
Ohh I love them too! My daddy used to get the old ones with brass blades
and polish them. I don’t own a single one…it is high time that changed…
Raising hand and laughing at the memories of the “darth vader” voices before Star Wars was born!
Also remember spitting on top of the bathroom gas heater; pretending I was frying bacon, lol.
What a great collection of vintage fans! The are so-o-o cool! I appreciate you linking informative post to Potpourri Friday!
