It didn’t cost any money to create – I had the few supplies needed already on hand.
Chances are good you have everything too, or something
similar that would work just as well.

When I saw this Garden Spade Door Knocker
sold by Terrain, I had one of those, “that gives me an idea” moments.
I don’t really want a door knocker because we
have a doorbell that no one rings since our
4 dogs bark up a storm whenever anyone pulls in my driveway.
I know I have company long before they make it to the door,
but I thought the idea was cute, with a little tweaking.Instead of a doorknocker, I thought I’d turn a hand spade
into a house number display.
With a little digging around in my workshop (couldn’t resist the pun),
I found a garden spade and stuck some adhesive chip board numbers on it..jpg)

Our house is white, so I decided I’d use another color
and since fall is coming, I went with yellow spray paint instead.
Once the paint was dry, I removed the chip board numbers
and lightly sanded it so some of the original rust would show through.
I also gave it a clear coat of acrylic spray to protect its appearance.

I used some E6000 to adhere it to a piece of old wood, and
a few minutes later…we have a house number display
to hang outside our home.
You could use this same concept and turn lots of old
garden or household tools into house number displays.
It’s a good way to put otherwise worn out tools
to good use, rather than just throwing them away.

Very creative, and funny, cause I have that same door knocker, but I do have a large collection of old garden tools will have to see if I can do something more creative than just the display I hung on the basement wall.
